Memories of Michael Jackson…

young MJ

I’m still in shock this morning…I know I said originally, I wasn’t shocked, however it’s now all too real…Michael Jackson is gone…so where was I?…when the news initially broke about Jackson being rushed to the hospital, I was napping…I just couldn’t get going yesterday, so I napped…I went online soon after I got up and I noticed a few tweets on facebook that said something like “Michael Jackson has died” or “Michael Jackson suffers cardiac arrest”…I had to check things out, so I went to multiple sources, and all I could find was that Jackson had indeed been rushed to the hospital and he was not breathing…let’s not forget another legend passed Thursday…Farrah Fawcett…she was not expected to make it as long as she did, she was a survivor…and Ed McMahon passed away on Tuesday…Mom said “they come in threes”…and she was right…

I went with Mom and Dad to eat supper around 5pm…my sister had kept texting me asking me the latest…when we returned home, all news outlets had confirmed Michael Jackson had died…Wow!…so the retrospectives began–the old Ed Sullivan footage of the Jackson 5, Michael breaking out with OFF THE WALL, clips of “Thriller”, clips of a big-haired back up singer, Sheryl Crow…and so I started to think about my memories of MJ…

They start with THE WIZ, Jackson’s acting debut as the Scarecrow…so innocent…I was in the dark in my family room, alone, watching the premiere of his long-form video for “Thriller”…I was scared when I saw Jackson’s transformation from man to werewolf…those yellow eyes!…I got a t-shirt with my own Michael Jackson sparkly glove…I had his poster on my closet door…I marveled at Jackson’s first performance of the moonwalk on the Motown 25 special…I anticipated all of Michael Jackson’s long video premieres…and then, his image started to tarnish, with one child molestation accusation, then another after a damning interview, then the circus-like trial…I turned on the artist I once loved…I was very cynical…he never really re-invented his musical style or dance moves, which I admired…he certainly re-invented his face, and I know he didn’t want to look like his father, but it was all wrong…

I pray for his family and his children…he was a true music legend, icon, innovator, and influence on the industy…R.I.P.

Double or Nothing…

I love movies and I love watching the Oscars every year…yes, it’s the longest live broadcast on TV, but I love every minute of it…I’ll be able to love it more now that I can DVR anything else I happen to watch on Oscar night…

Yesterday, the Academy announced the Best Picture category next year will be comprised of 10 nominees instead of 5…I didn’t know 10 was the norm until 1943…CASABLANCA won for Best Picture the last time 10 nominees were in the category…this news got me to thinking, “what movies have been omitted in the Best Picture category lately?”…one that pops right to mind is THE DARK KNIGHT…somehow, THE READER snuck in and I’m sorry, but it was not a very good movie and Kate Winslet (I got nothing but love for her) should NOT have won Best Actress…it’s just weird how some films get nominated and some don’t…that won’t be the case anymore?

What are some movies you wish had been nominated for Best Picture?…What do you think of 10 nominees instead of 5?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat????

Photobucket

All right, you may have seen the first stills yesterday from Tim Burton’s take on ALICE IN WONDERLAND…I’m still freaked out by Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter…one picture you may have missed, is LITTLE BRITAIN’s Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum…this is going to be one trippy movie…probably unlike any other Tim Burton film to date…I can’t wait to see what those characters look like on-screen…

Please don’t go over budget!

Diva vs. Diva

Perez vs. Will.I.Am

I figure I should put in my two cents on the Perez Hilton/Will.I.Am situation…I went to Perez’s site yesterday, like I do everyday, and the first item was “My Statement”…I watched the whole thing…Wow!…who knew Perez would get assaulted, all because he didn’t like the Black Eyed Peas’ new album?…it all took place this weekend in Toronto after the MuchMusic Awards…first Fergie approached Perez during rehearsals, he explained himself, then at two after parties, Perez was confronted again, only this time, by Will.I.Am…well, at some point after Perez exited the second after party (his claim) he was punched in the eye by the BEP’s manager, who was arrested and charged with one count of assault…Perez has been sued multiple times, but NEVER physically harmed…

On the flip side, Will.I.Am is claiming all of the events didn’t happen the way Perez said they did…he claims Perez was assaulted by a random person and not the band’s manager…Perez is also getting flak for calling Will.I.Am “gay” and “faggot”…yes, Perez, gay himself, called Will.I.Am the very names I’m sure he wouldn’t want to be called…and he admitted it in his video statement!!!…if you go to Perez’s site today, there is no further mention of the incident, probably because of the ongoing investigation…(this could change later on today)….

Some people are already saying Perez got what he deserved…well, no one deserves to be physically assaulted, especially sucker punched…and it’s being said, both parties are just looking for lots of media attention, who knows?…it all boils down to watch what you say and there’s two sides to every story…

Opinions?

Pride…look the Indigo Girls!

I am proud of who I am…I wouldn’t change it for the world and I’m never as happy as I am as when I’m among my friends and strangers who celebrate being different…it’s been 40 years since Stonewall, wow!…Pride is about more than having fun, it’s about the good fight–the fight for equal rights…Emily Sailers of the Indigo Girls put it this way, “…the states are falling like dominoes…” in reference to all the states that have legalized same-sex marriage…a friend of mine reminded me gay pride shouldn’t always be about the “flash” but should be about equality…

All right, on with the wrap-up….going to a gay pride festival has been my summer vacation for the past several years and it is for sure this year…sob…my good friends and I have attended the Kentuckiana Pride Festival in Louisville for the past 3 years, I think…I know we didn’t go together two years ago…me and a friend went to Nashville Pride instead…we went to Nashville’s strictly until we found out how neat Louisville/Kentuckiana’s was…they have ongoing entertainment and giveaways…I registered for 5 chances to meet the Indigo Girls…I didn’t win…I registered for a 40″ plasma TV…nope…LOL….the weather was outrageous…humidity-humidity-humidity!…I’m surprised I didn’t see more people wilt…a lady behind us while the Indigo Girls were on, did pass out…it got very steamy again Saturday night…I’m lucky, in other words…

Prior to straining to get pictures of the Indigo Girls, I’m way too short…Tiffany was the entertainment…she is ferosh!…well, maybe her music isn’t ferosh, but she looked great…I guess CELEBRITY FIT CLUB paid off…before Tiffany, we got to hear a band from Michigan, My Dear Disco…they were decent, all their songs sounded the same…I liked them…All the while, we are sweating our nether regions off…we had a great time!…it was maybe, the best Pride ever…it was definitely the hottest…UGH!

Happy Monday!

The Real Divas of New Jersey…

New Jersey Housewives

…or is it devils?…Bravo is one of the most brilliant cable networks of our time…and the REAL HOUSEWIVES franchise?…priceless…I never watched the first installment, Orange County, I watched New York a couple of times (it’s better), and of course my favorite is Atlanta, which returns next month….

But who knew, New Jersey would be so explosive in just 6 episodes, that’s right, only 6 episodes were shot and aired…I figure it was a sort of trial run for the show, but I guarantee you, after the finale and the “director’s cut” of the finale, it will be back…all because of “the book”…

Danielle was always the outsider to the tight knit group of Caroline, Dina-Caroline’s sister, Jacqueline-their sister-in-law, and Teresa…I know the producers had to have some sort of motivation for the others, with the exception of Jacqueline, to get them to hate Danielle…I mean why did Dina and Danielle hate each other?…it was never really explained–yeah, the book caused problems, but it was never solid why they had this rivalry…and why did we never see Dina’s husband?…my sister pointed out it was stated in an earlier episode that he travels a lot…what is up with Teresa’s hairline????…her eyes are too far apart and her children are wild and not pretty…I like Caroline, she’s a ball buster…I think Jacqueline is pretty, she’s defintely not from NJ…Mom says Danielle is the the ugliest housewife she’s ever seen on any of the shows…LOL…if you did happen to see the mugshot of Danielle from COP WITHOUT A BADGE, she’s had a MAJOR overhaul on her face…yikes!

All and all, I just wanted to say Teresa was probably three sheets to the wind before she got the restaurant for her dinner party on the finale and that’s why she threw the table and began to speak in tongues???…Dina is a big chicken, she kind of looks like one, Caroline is a bully, and Danielle is NOT afraid to stand up for herself…poor Jacqueline, she did stand up for Danielle and she had to pay for it from her sister-in-laws for a while, but bravo (hee!) to her…

The reunion will air over 2 nights next Tuesday and Thursday…I can’t wait…

**I’m off to the Kentuckiana Pride Festival in Louisville tomorrow, will have a full report next week***

Hellooooooooooooo Nurse!

Edie Falco

(Yesterday’s post is no more, I deleted it…it was totally pitiful and desperate, which is how I am these days, eh, let’s forget about Tueshday and move on shall we)

All I can say about NURSE JACKIE is ROCK ME EDIE FALCO!….Oh my gosh, she is so good, yeah, she was good and she won several awards as Carmela Soprano…but now?…I love this character: a painkiller addicted nurse who is cheating on her husband with the guy who supplies the pills at the hospital AND…not a huge suprise, a nurse who takes no shit, PERIOD!…let’s pause a brief second and talk about Falco’s look for Jackie…I loooooooove the haircut (bites fist)…and she is kind of hot, both the actress and the character, if you like ladies who not so pretty, but have swagger and attitude for days…I do! I do!

In addition to being a cool show, NURSE JACKIE was co-created by two lesbians…Liz Brixius and Linda Wallem…brava! brava!…it’s totaly bad ass when you see the ladies busting out a killer show like this…(it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine)…

I’m still trying to buckle down and start on my treatment…the ideas are there, but I just can’t jump into it…I searched for tips on writing one on the internet and one main tip…WRITE IN THE PRESENT TENSE…GEAHH!…in case you haven’t noticed, I tend to switch tense when I write, therefore, this will be a challenge….

OH BROTHER!…and check out NURSE JACKIE…the first episode is available online at sho.com…its regular airtime is Monday nights after WEEDS…9:30 Central!….

D-List Diva

Photobucket

Kathy Griffin is hilarious!…no hold barred, balls out funny…big supporter of the gays…I think this is season 5 of MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST, which is unbelievable…however, I have a bone to pick…why did Bravo move Kathy to MONDAYS????…It screws my viewing schedule completely up…my schedule on Mondays consists of:

A&E, Intervention & Obsessed…starting at 8 (central) and ending at 10…I’ve had to DVR another show in this window, Nurse Jackie at 9:30…it’s great by the way, I love Edie Falco!…so now, I’ll probably DVR Obsessed and watch Kathy or vice versa…decisions, decisions.
