My Top 10 Songs of 2009…

Well, here we are, another year is almost in the books…wait, the first decade of the new millenium is almost in the books???…it’s crazy, but so is music…let’s get started….
1. Lady GaGa–Throw a dart!!!…4, soon to be 5, #1 hits, many dramatical performances and appearances (FYI-she’s going to be on a new episode of Bravo’s Launch My Line Jan. 6; I don’t watch the show, but I will just this once) anyway, “Poker Face” was GaGa’s biggest hit of ’09…and I would agree, but I’m predicting “Bad Romance” could be even bigger!…oh, and she’s also in the midst of her first headlining tour: The Monster Ball…I love her!…is she the new Madonna?….we’ll see…
2. Beyonce’–Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)…you know, I think this was last year’s number 2…and it makes my list again simply because it’s one of the best tracks ever produced…and yes, Kanye was right, it’s one of the best videos of all time…also, this time last year, Single Ladies was still relatively new to the charts…on the fringe…I was also impressed by Halo and Diva…not to mention her mash-up of If I Were a Boy with Alanis Morrisette’s You Oughta Know on her I Am…tour…she heads into the Grammys with 10 nominations…think she’ll win one???…
3. Kings of Leon–Use Somebody…yes, the men are rare on this year’s list…I’m still a little disappointed in Kings of Leon…they started out as this little indie band from Nashville…Pentecostal brothers and a cousin…and they’ve always had great tunes…however, in 2009, something changed…this song broke through to the mainstream and the band seemed to have never looked back…when I think of this year, this is definitely one track that pops into my head…
4. Black Eyed Peas–I Gotta Feeling…oh yes…the Peas dominated the charts this year…and I think their music is sounding more pop than hip-hop these days, which makes for many happy fans and listeners…Fergie helps a lot too….damn girl!
5. Katy Perry–Waking Up in Vegas…I know you think Hot N Cold should be on here instead…I give it props, but I liked Vegas better…again, it had more mainstream appeal…and it erased all my hatred of Perry for that little I Kissed a Girl song…I forgive, but I don’t forget…when The Hangover is one of the highest-grossing films of the year, Vegas had it all going on…
6. Pink–Sober…I was thinking So What was a bigger hit, but I was wrong…according to Billboard’s year-end Hot 100 chart, Sober was bigger or ranked higher…and it should…in fact, every Pink track I heard this year, I liked, except for Funhouse…her songwriting is as good as its ever been…let’s hope Adam Lambert can take Whataya Want From Me, a song Pink co-wrote, to the top…
7. Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys–Empire State of Mind…only in a year that would see the New York Yankees back in the World Series (ps-they won!) Jay-Z would tell the tale of his hometown…I’m told Keys’ solo version is better, but I like this track…the hook is good and the chorus is perfect…it’s another one that might show up on next year’s list…
8. Britney Spears–Circus…I guess I should throw Brit-Brit a bone…LOL…even though she doesn’t sing, she had a more than decent comeback in ’09….Womanizer and 3 are also good jams…I’m excited to see how her ex, Kevin Federline, does on the new edition of Celebrity Fit Club…in short, Britney is still crazy, but the music shined just a tad brighter…
9. The Veronicas–Untouched…okay, this wasn’t a huge hit by any means, but I was instantly a fan after hearing this track on the worst day of the Ice Storm…well, the day when AT&T customers lost cell phone usage…oh, did that suck!…Lisa and Jessica are hella-talented!…and I thought Jessica played for my team, but I think it was all a misunderstanding…the arrangement on Untouched, so good!
10.  Kelly Clarkson–My Life Would Suck Without You…and don’t forget Already Gone…I actually prefer the latter…after a dismal album two years ago, Clarkson pulled it all back together and she put out her biggest album since her formative, post-Idol days…Clarkson also incorporated some mash-ups on her latest tour…Already Gone with what else?…Use Somebody…and since Already Gone and Beyonce’s Halo were written by the same person and let’s face it, they are almost identical tracks, Kelly tagged Already Gone with the Halo chorus one night…love her!
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Oh, why the hell not?…first, the cast of GLEE…they make me want to listen to music again…these country acts didn’t quite make my chart, but I got nothing but respect…well, I suppose TAYLOR SWIFT was a big omission from my list, but I intended it that way…Zac Brown Band’s Chicken Fried charted highest on the Year End Hot 100 chart, not counting the many Taylor Swift tracks…I love Lady Antebellum…Run To You made the Year-End chart, but Need You Now is soooooo good and is a solid number one hit…Jordin Sparks continues to have a fairly healthy post-Idol career; I loved Battlefield…Jamie Foxx and T-Pain made me Blame It on the A-A-A-A-A-Alcohol…’Lil Wayne collaborated on two songs I liked…Kevin Rudolf’s Let it Rock and Jay Sean’s Down…3OH!3’s Don’t Trust Me????…funny as hell…and finally, like you had any doubts, I pay much respect and love to my little Glambert…I pray 2010 will be a good one for the almost-American Idol winner…and who knows?…he may get to meet the queen one day.
HAPPY 2010!

Brittany Murphy…

Brittany Murphy died this morning in L.A….she was 32…I wasn’t a big fan…I love the movie Clueless, I never saw 8 Mile, I love Girl, Interrupted…that’s about it…oh yeah…Murphy voiced Luanne on King of the Hill in over 200 episodes…all the rumors out there today point to a drug-related death…I will not judge because when it comes to rumors of a star in Hollywood falling, it’s usually another one, like Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears…and yes, Murphy’s death should make them and others aware of the ultimate consequence…
Okay, enough grand standing….I will remember Murphy in one of her lesser known roles…a young closeted lesbian serving in the military in the first vignette in the made-for-cable movie, Common Ground….and since I’m one of the few people left in the universe with a VCR, I have this film recorded….this is part of Murphy’s installment of Common Ground….R.I.P.

The Runaways teaser trailer!

Yes, I realize this blog is either very late, or very early for Friday..eh, it’s the holidays…and I didn’t work today, so I got in a long winter’s nap…although winter doesn’t start until Monday…moving on…several stills were released on the web yesterday for The Runaways starring recent New Moon co-stars Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning…Stewart plays Joan Jett, who is helping consult Stewart for the movie and Fanning plays sex-kitten front woman, Cherie Currie…I’m sure other band members are helping, but Jett’s the only one I’ve heard mentioned…then tonight, I just got wind of the first teaser trailer, it’s short, but here it is:

I think the casting of Michael Shannon as band manager Kim Fowley is a great choice…however, a friend of mine pointed out yesterday that this movie could be “really, really good or really, really bad”…I agree…Kristen Stewart has annoyed me so much as Bella, I don’t know if I can take her seriously as one of the most hard rocking, and tough, chicks of all time…Fanning looks dead on as Currie…the film is slated to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next month, with a wide release scheduled for March…
I will count the days!!!!…ROCK AND ROLL!

The Dreaded GLEE hiatus and Glambert back on ABC?!?…

All right, we’ve all know, for about two weeks, that GLEE is taking a major hiatus after tonight’s “Fall Finale”…it’s all to make way for FOX’s original musical machine American Idol and I’m excited, but sad…I’m hoping FOX doesn’t take GLEE away completely, although I haven’t heard what the status is on reruns…they are very smart if they take it away altogether until April…addicts will have pumped so much money into ITunes, the economy will bounce back with flying colors!!!…tonight’s episode, of course, is all about Sectionals…how long have they been building up to the damn Sectionals episode?…oh yeah, since MAY!…I will be bummed, but one number will comfort me in these trying times:

Now to Glambert!…I know I haven’t blogged about him in two weeks?!?…I had to detox a bit…I’m still in love with For Your Entertainment…the Billboard album charts have Lambert debuting at #3…and yes, Susan Boyle topped the chart and she might for an extended period of time…AAARGH!…I will never understand how so many people are fascinated by a person who, I still predict, is a flash in the pan!…I mean, who in the world has her cd?????…you need to identify yourself stat!!!…if I had a billion, gagillion dollars, I wouldn’t buy it….anyway, back Glambert…the rumors are true…he’s back on ABC tonight AND tomorrow morning…yes, the same ABC that recently canceled two late night Lambert performances, one on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the other? New Year’s Rockin’ Eve….so where is he at?….tonight, Adam is one of Barbara Walters “10 Most Fascinating People of 2009″….yes, and so is Lady GaGa…I’m not kidding….it airs 10/9C…which is the same time I’ll be watching the Top Chef finale…DVR!!!!…then tomorrow morning, Lambert will make a TAPED appearance on The View, Walters’ other vehicle…I’m guessing she had some pull in bringing back the Glambert…who knows?…

I’ll be watching!…

Whom in this Family cast picture…

…would you have picked to come out of the closet?…like yesterday on national television?
Okay, most eyes would go automatically to Kristy McNichol, who has been the subject of  “is she a lesbian?” rumors for years a la Jodie Foster…she has always perpetuated the tomboy image…well, after a diagnosis of bi-polar disorder, McNichol has pretty much disappeared from the limelight…And good for her, she’s taught some acting classes and is a devout animal rights and environmental activist…yeah, not gay at all, but I digress.
Nope, instead the National Enquirer broke a story last/this? week, complete with pictures, that Meredith Baxter was spotted on a lesbian cruise and she seemed very comfortable…then pictures surfaced Tuesday of Baxter and her “girlfriend”, who seems comfortable wearing Birkenstocks…so yesterday, Baxter went on The Today Show to tell the world she’s a lesbian…and really?…I’m not surprised…of course, it’s always better to tell the truth and do damage control now…Baxter said she’s a “later in life lesbian”…That’s so perfect!…and all the stories mention, Baxter has been married three times and she has five children…they are all grown…she also said in her sit-down with Matt Lauer, that she could never connect to the men she was married to or in a relationship with…that’s the first sign!…it’s a connection I try to explain to myself to the many who ask why I’m gay…but I’ll leave that discussion for another time…this blog is about getting to the point without all the heavy stuff…Baxter has been in a relationship with building contractor (LOL!) Nancy Locke for the past four years…
And I find it ironic the day after I got my haircut, this announcement/interview took place…hmmmm?…I’m just sayin’!

Here it is!…the pixie!

The haircut came together great!…my stylist was kind of enough to give me her tub of wax so I didn’t have to buy any…Merry Christmas!…and this cut was cheap!…she charged me her usual rate, so this was a good day!…she cut a lot of my gray out, which I’m very thankful for…and it appears a lot darker now, maybe darker than it has ever been…AND…I thought it having it this short would make my face look fatter, but the way the cut is, it’s actually slimming my face…that’s what she said!…I’m very pleased and I can’t think of a better way to kick off the holiday season…hooray!
