Not Myself Tonight????..indeed!

Well today is the big day Christina Aguilera’s video for her new single “Not Myself Tonight” hits the web…all I can say is: really?…I’m sure this will be blogged to death, but why is Xtina ripping off everybody???..yes, we know she has been ripping off GaGa for a while, but this video has some definite Madonna overtones…and you’ll see them all over the place…on the upside, the song is not bad at all…I dig it, but she really needs some originality concerning her wardrobe, make-up, hair, and image…please!…she preceded GaGa for God’s sake! Happy Friday and enjoy!

Honey I’m Home!

So, we say goodbye to the female Adam Lambert…hey, in the end, she was NO Adam Lambert…she got worse instead of getting better…she became manic and she talked way too long to the judges…and do you think Kara would really hang out with her??…who knows…
I had extremely high hopes for glassblower Siobhan Mangus…she brought that quirky vibe to the show although in the end, she out-quirked her talent…it’s all proof America would still like their pop stars without funny hair and elaborate costumes…but wait…doesn’t Mama Sox fit that bill?…well, maybe not the elaborate costume part…and folks, Crystal is the only female left in the competition…she will have to outlast 2 mediocre singers (Aaron Kelly and Casey James), 1 ego-maniac (Big Mike), and the guy who can be energizing, but still very boring with no originality (Lee Dewyze)…
I mean next week is the songs of Frank Sinatra with Harry Connick, Jr. as mentor…what can Casey and Lee do with Sinatra????…I can tell you what Mike and Aaron can do, boring-flatline ballads…it will be interesting to see what Crystal does…she definitely needs to bring back the power in her voice, let’s face it, this week was not good…and there were fears she might visit the bottom 3…she didn’t seem to sing out at all…she was probably intimidated by the arrangement, which I was not a fan of…I fear she may be losing just a little bit of steam…which may land her in second place when all is said and done…however, finishing second on Idol is not a bad thing…GLAMBERT!..hello!…speaking of Lambert, he tweeted out last night that “Whataya Want From Me” has now gone platinum in the US…not bad for a runner-up…

Kara DioGuardi: Sober?…um not much…

God bless all the American Idol bloggers…especially the kids at idolator.com  They have managed to dig up a couple of videos of Idol judge and songwriter, Kara DioGuardi singing, although I wouldn’t say what you’re about to witness would be called singing…hell, it’s not even performing…as you may or may not know, DioGuardi was one of the co-writers of Pink’s hit “Sober”…a song I love…however, from now on, I only want to hear Pink sing it…this video of Kara performing “Sober” appears to be from a charity event…it comes complete with Kara singing over the Pink instrumental track…HA!…I give Kara props for trying, I guess but this is one of those performances that would have her fellow Idol judges cringing…it totally evokes Simon’s “girl singing at the end of a birthday party” motif…oh, you must watch this:

Joss Gives Back!..and there’s more!

Yes, Joss Stone and Jeff Beck WERE the Idol Gives Back show…yes, yes, I loved Annie Lennox…I’m just bummed that damn volcano ash kept her from being on live…I did not see the Black Eyed Peas, but I heard good things and bad things…they are the group of the moment, so it was fitting to have them open the show…I guess I shouldn’t say “of the moment” but I digres…this week’s mentor, Alicia Keys, sounded a little rough, but she rocks, damn, I love to hear her talk, she’s so smoove…okay, I loved-loved-loved Joss Stone and Jeff Beck’s performance of “I Put a Spell on You”…oh yeah…that was true artistry right there folks!…if say, Crystal and Siobhan want to look at possibly what their future careers can be, Stone provided an excellent example…Elton John was great, Carrie Underwood was okay, the Mary J. Blige all-star group was good, but didn’t totally rock me…I think the whole fake phonebank joke segment with Russell Brand and Jonah Hill was okay…I mean Slash!…hello?!?…Wanda Sykes was the funniest of the night…her joke about telling Big Mike to go home was hilarious…season 7 winner David Cook appeared but did not perform, boo to the producers on a missed opportunity…Seacrest was Seacrest…I really hope he goes along with Simon at the end of the season, he’s exhausting to watch anymore…
If you think Gleeks were upset Wednesday night…Idoloonies may be upset about last night..the broadcast ran oh, 20-25 minutes long…but I’m sure by now, you know Tim Urban or “Turban” finally bit the dust on his Idol run…he was cheesy, but he had gotten a lot better in the past few weeks…in fact, I participated in the LA Times’ Idol Tracker chat yesterday and promininent critic Ann Powers said she feared Tim might WIN?!?!?…I guess she’s eating her words today…and of course, leave it up to the producers to force the “Big Mike in the bottom 3” issue yet again…I’m tired of it, really tired of it…Casey James was sent to safety, leaving Big Mike and Tim waiting….there’s just too much drama in the elinination episodes this year…at this point, with the exception of Crystal, who the hell has a chance of winning????…I know I’m not the only one who feels this way…I’m losing faith in Siobhan, although I’m still confident she can pick it back up…however, next week, Shania Twain will be the mentor and the Idols will choose from HER library…yes, it’s mostly country, but Twain cashed in on the whole country-pop crossover niche way before Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood…but I have no idea who this niche will favor out of the 6 contestants remaining…man, it sucks Katie Stevens couldn’t stick around long enough for Shania week, since the judges tried to force her into a country direction…oh well…
So here’s what we’ve learned…always set your DVRs to record at least 20 minutes longer than scheduled, the Idols are STILL lipsynching the group numbers, and I’m over this season…just kidding on that last one, but really…

Thank God for GLEE (and Madonna!)

You know, I had my doubts about the second half of GLEE…would I be as excited as when I had to wait all that time after the pilot premiered last May?…would I be satisfied with the music?…would I be satisfied with the jokes?…yes, yes, and yes!!!…okay, that last yes is a little premature, and I would be referring to all the hair jabs Sue throws at Will, although he got his digs in last night, but at a price…no spoilers I promise….
“The Power of Madonna” episode may be my favorite to date…not that I favor one episode over the other, but this one was just so jam-packed with music, all approved by Madonna…which you know she will be making major bank off of this…I mean how buzzworthy has Sue Sylvester’s “Vogue” been????
It’s so brilliant…but again, it all came with a price…shhhhhhhhhhh!…and I’m referring to the episode, not the brilliance of Jane Lynch…I must say, I think the second half has been better so far without all the baby drama…I know it will be back, but when the show just goes for the music and the fun, it’s so much more fun to watch…I wish every week could be like this week….I may have to download some of the tracks, since you can buy the The Power of Madonna cd right now!…I would venture to say this cd may outsell volumes one and two combined…and you know more compilations are on the way, plus the cast’s mini-tour….
Speaking of tours, one sidebar…Adam Lambert’s “Glam Nation” dates were announced late yesterday, and sadly, nothing even close to me…but it was only about a 15-city set…there will be more…or I should say there better be more!…
As for Idol Gives Back tonight, I’m not sure who will go home…you know the producers may just pull a gotcha and not send anyone home because of the nature of tonight’s show…I’ll do my best to recap tomorrow because I’ll miss the first half hour…

It’s Really Sad When…

American Idol, if only for one night, is NOT about this year’s finalists…Adam Lambert brought it bitches!…he was clever to rearrange his hit “Whataya Want From Me” for his return Idol performance and it was a little manic, but totally awesome…I’m really surprised there wasn’t a disclaimer before his elaborate Incredible Hulk meets Laser Floyd production:
And in case you missed it, two contestants who should’ve been voted off weeks ago, Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens, said their farewells…Garcia’s elimination came almost 15 minutes into the broadcast, yeah Idol still thinks they can change things up, but it’s really getting tired…of course the drama was amped up again when it was revealed Turban, Big Mike-HUH????, and Katie were in the bottom…well, the fake bottom, oh hell, I don’t want to explain it…in short, Big Mike was stuck up there again for no reason at all except to remind viewers he was saved for the umpteenth time…yes, he will be around for two more weeks, since Idol Gives Back is next week…and I think I’ll take a look at it, but I won’t be glued to the TV…I really loved the first Idol Gives Back, since then?…not wild about it…it just prolongs the stay of the sub-par talent still in the competition…and I’m hoping the finalists will sing their best, because in reality, folks won’t be tuning in to see them, they will tuning in to see the established stars…am I right?…as always, Bowersox all the way!!!!

Old Home Week Begins Tonight!!!

How so?…well let’s start with this guy coming back to mentor on American Idol:
I know tonight’s show may not be good at all, but at least we get to see Adam Lambert, last year’s runner-up, speak the truth, and we get to see him perform Wednesday night-BONUS!…I just realized, I haven’t blogged about Glambert in quite some time..it’s not that he’s disappeared, he’s been traveling the world promoting For Your Entertainment…there’s still no word when a US tour will happen; I predict he will hit the road here maybe mid-late summer or this fall…anyway, we get to bask in his greatness tonight and tomorrow night…I can actually enjoy the show for once this season…
If it’s enjoyment you seek, then welcome back GLEE!!!!
You know, the wait for the second half of GLEE wasn’t as long as I thought it would be…time flies when the contestants suck on American Idol…(not all of them)…and these next episodes will be jammed packed with guest stars galore: Neil Patrick Harris, Idina Menzel, Olivia Newton-John, J-Lo???…next week’s episode is the highly anticipated all Madonna edition, which will come complete with another GLEE cd with all the Madonna recordings…there are some fears now that GLEE has moved to Tuesday nights, the lame Idol lead-in will kill its audience…I don’t think that will happen…Idol will be over in a little over a month…then we call all focus on Jane Lynch….
Solid!
*NOTE: I may liveblog tomorrow night’s Idol results just for the hell of it…

Southern Grace…(and a little bit of spitfire!)

News is breaking that Emmy-nominated actress Dixie Carter has passed away…with Malcolm McLaren’s passing this week, I hope the “rule of 3” doesn’t happen…she was a star of stage and screen…one of the best…and of course, she will go down in history for her impeccable performance as Juila Sugarbaker on Designing Women…here’s the clip everybody will be posting….RIP

I Will Miss Malcolm McLaren…

I was saddened yesterday to hear about the passing of one-time Sex Pistols manager and at one time a pretty successful artist in his own right, Malcolm McLaren…I discovered McLaren through one of the best rock/mockumentaies ever made, The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle…the story of how the Sex Pistols got together, had their 15 minutes, and they eventually burned out…in record time…rock video director, Julien Temple, helmed the Swindle as well the brilliant The Filth and the Fury, which was more of an honest re-telling of the Pistols’ story…
YOU MUST RENT AND/OR BUY BOTH OF THESE FILMS!…WHO KILLED BAMBI?!?
RIP MCLAREN

Instant Karma’s Gonna Get You…

Yes, I know “Instant Karma” is strictly a Lennon song, but how appropriate is it right now?…very…I guess the only reason I’m sticking with American Idol at least one more week is because Adam Lambert is next week’s mentor…other than that, I may be done with a show I’ve loved for so many years…I wonder if Dancing with the Stars beating Idol in the ratings Tuesday night had anything to do with Michael Lynche being saved last night…I would say it’s probable…I guess to say I and many other fans are not happy with last night’s dog and pony show is an understatement….so, why was Big Mike saved?….here are some theories…
He’s an okay singer, but not great, and he won’t win…I know a few blogs back, I predicted Big Mike and Crystal Bowersox would be in the finals…but now?…I don’t think so and last night just ruined everything…a friend of mine thinks Lynche isn’t getting votes, therefore, they show him on camera as much as possible…he’s a big personality, but a very mediocre performer…he can’t really switch up anything he does vocally…no matter the theme…I’m not a fan of his ego and I’m really not a fan of the pouting act he pulled when it was revealed he was the bottom vote getter…it’s a competition and someone will always lose or go home…of course next week, 2 contestants will be packing their bags…and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them is Big Mike…he had his big save moment, now he’s done…seriously, he’s through…I think the judges and the producers were very scared of getting rid of him, and not just because of his size and his ego…they need him…but I don’t care one iota about him at all…I mean look at who won’t be saved: Crystal, Siobhan, Casey, hell even Lee…Aaron, Katie, and Tim are biding their time, because they don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell to win…I guess the odd man out is Andrew…shock and awe as he was told he was staying another week….I’d rather see him than Big Mike stick around…
AAARGH!
