American Idol…the 180 Degrees Edition…

In just 24 hours time, Ellen DeGeneres quits Idol, then today, it’s reported Kara DioGuardi has been served her walking papers!…of course it’s also rumored that super Idol producer and So You Think You Can Dance judge, Nigel Lythgoe is coming back…Ellen didn’t help  Idol, and she’s been quoted as telling Fox that the show just “wasn’t the right fit” for her…not many people were oblivious to that statement…of course Idol didn’t fit Ellen!…she always said she didn’t like to hurt people’s feelings, but I’m not sure that’s the real reason she’s leaving…DeGeneres is starting her own record label, which doesn’t really make any sense, since most of her roster, I predict, will consist of Idol rejects…I hope Alex Lambert hasn’t signed a deal yet…I wouldn’t necessarily call Ellen’s stint as a judge a FAIL, but it wasn’t great…on the other hand…
I’m really glad to see Kara DioGuardi go!…again, it’s not that she was a bad judge, she just didn’t really captivate the audience in quite the way Paula did…she always came off as a little bit mean and clueless at the same time…however, she still has a good behind-the-scenes career ahead of her, so all is not lost…you never know, she may show up on TV again…and at the moment, she has reason to cheer, Carrie Underwood’s “Undo It”, which she helped write, just went to #1 on the Country charts…she’ll be all right…
Well as news broke DioGuardi got the axe, a new judge has already been hired:
Yes, Jennifer Lopez will be a judge in season 10…and why is Steven Tyler there?…he’s rumored to be the final piece of the judging puzzle…Randy Jackson’s contract ends after season 10, so as far as we know, he’s staying put…Supposedly, Fox also met with Elton John and Justin Timberlake…and they met a little while ago with someone who I’m still trying to figure out why…Chris Isaak…now, this is all good and fine, but I still think the talent is hurting the show, not the judges…many dates on current Idols Live tour were pulled due to poor ticket sales…and to be fair, we won’t know how the recent winner, Lee DeWyze, and runner-up, Crystal Bowersox, will succeed until each releases a full album later this year…I’m already very leery of how each will do, especially DeWyze…
In the end, it’s gonna take a miracle to revive American Idol…that’s it!

Re-Thinking My Summer Watchin’ TV List…

I guess you could say we’re about halfway through the Summer TV season…and I haven’t quite as faithful as I hoped I would be….It’s not that the shows I recommended are bad, I just get really bored fast…for example, I know Hot in Cleveland has received rave reviews and it has been picked up for a full season next year, but frankly, I’m over it already…Don’t get me wrong, Betty White is great and she gets all the good jokes, but her supporting cast just isn’t doing it for me…I mean Wendie Malick is basically playing the exact same character she played on Just Shoot Me, Jane Leeves is a little more naughty than she was on Fraiser, and Valerie Bertinelli plays the sweet, apologetic one…not the most compelling formula…I may give it another try…
One of my picks I’m really disappointed in this season… is Obsessed…I’m really bored with it…I mean, how many different compulsions can one show explore?…many of them are starting to blur together…germaphobes, overprotective mothers, some guy afraid of El Caminos, etc….I don’t see it going past two or three seasons…I also had The Green Room with Paul Provenza on my list and it’s actually sort of good, however, I always forget when it comes on and some of the comedians, again, are boring and tired….I think it would help if the show was live…
I’m still in love with True Blood, Top Chef, Work of Art, and yes, I’ve been sticking with The Real L Word….how?…I’ll never know…
I’m excited to share a new find my mother and I discovered last weekend….TLC aired back-to-back episodes of a great reality show, The Fabulous Beekman Boys…here they are:
We were instantly captivated!!!…the premise?  two gay city boys move to upstate NY, renovate the Beekman house, they have 80 goats, chickens, two pigs, turkeys, and they live off those animals and the organic fare….author Josh Kilmer-Purcell and his partner, Dr. Brent Ridge struggle with life on the farm, but they are learning something new everyday…oh, I omitted their llama, Polka Dot…Purcell’s most recent memoir, The Bucolic Plague,  is all about the boys’ continuing experiment…Dr. Brent previously worked with Martha Stewart, not a shock, and he is adorable…his accent is unmistakably Southern, he’s from North Carolina…of course the show is wonderful (PLANET GREEN, Wednesdays 9p E/8pC), but if you want to see what the boys are up to, head over to http://www.beekman1802.com/ And naturally, you can follow them and Polka Dot on Facebook and Twitter….FABULOUS!

Good Enough for Me and My Bobby McGee???

Yesterday, there came a sign that a Janis Joplin biopic may finally get off the ground, with Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams now tagged to play one of the biggest rock icons of all-time…and yes, Adams can sing…however, she’ll need to swallow some gravel to get that signature Joplin fry…
This makes the, oh let’s say, sixth actress/singer tied to play Joplin…it all started probably fifteen years ago when Melissa Etheridge was still with Julie Cypher, and Cypher was set to direct her lady in a Joplin movie…I guess that didn’t quite pan out…and really no one took on the project for many, many years…I think the next name I heard to possibly take on Janis was Renee Zellweger, which we know she can sing, but that project went nowhere, as it did with Zooey Dechanel…another singing actress…not ballsy enough…
One name that stood out as a possible Joplin was Pink!…how could that have gone wrong??? and that particular project had a pretty cool director tied to it, Penelope Spheeris…Pink even did a screen test…I wonder if anyone has it?…
Well, whomever ends up playing Janis…she better bring it!:

BAFFLED!

It appears my nightmares may become more vivid…
Well, I don’t how this got by me, but season 8 of Project Runway premieres July 29th at 9pm E on Lifetime…as you recall, I’ve renounced my blogging of the show, because IT HAS TO STOP!…Don’t get me wrong, reality competition shows can go on for years, i.e. Survivor, The Biggest Loser, Big Brother, Top Chef, however, Project Runway has lost its original wow factor!…the main reason? moving the show from Bravo to Lifetime…granted, there was a lengthy legal battle to get season 6 on the air after it sat on the shelf for several months…and airing season 6 needed to happen, but that’s where it should have ended…but you can’t end a show on a sour note, thus Lifetime is prolonging the torture…even the designs last season were very lackluster…I was hoping at least the fashion part of the show would stay intact, nope!…I’ve already aired my grievances on how the designers themselves have become a cliche’, from your average-looking, father of two to an over-the-top screaming queen…I use the same comparison for the female designers, just switch pronouns…and when you get tired of Tim that’s a bad sign…he’s still great as a mentor and he’s good for the occasional catty one-liner, but even he’s not wowing anymore…don’t even get me started on Heidi and Nina…I still love Michael Kors as a judge…but I just can’t commit to watching it much anymore…UGH!

Lady GaGa Continues to Channel the Greats…

I can’t believe it but you are currently reading my 200th post!…it only took a little over a year to get here…I haven’t been able to sleep so well this weekend, no idea why…Lady GaGa paid a visit to The Today Show on Friday, I had it saved on the DVR, so when I woke up way too early this morning, I decided to watch it…as you know, GaGa’s Monster Ball Tour is just starting to take over the US…I would die if I could go; she always, on TV anyway, produces pretty good live performances…I was glad to see GaGa bring back her hand-held mic for The Today Show performances…and what would a GaGa set be without a tune from the piano…”You and I” is a brand new song GaGa will release on her newly completed third album, title unknown, early in 2011…however, she has been performing this new song here and there and at a few tour stops…actually, there’s a rumored Remix cd that is currently selling well overseas that will land in the US in the coming weeks…
Lady GaGa channels a glam-era Elton John in this performance…she is wonderful and I confess, I think I like this rock jam better than “Speechless”…thanks for reading my blog, there will be many more to come…xoxoxo

New Directions Heads to the Emmys!

With 19 nominations!!!!  For Best Comedy Series…including acting noms for Lea Michele (Lead Actress in a Comedy Series), Matthew Morrison (Lead Actor in a Comedy Series), Chris Colfer! (Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series) and of course, Jane Lynch (Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series)…GLEE is just 3 nominations short of the all-time record…30 Rock received 22 last year, this year? 15, not too shabby…not only will 30 Rock have GLEE to deal with for Best Comedy Series, but also upstart Modern Family, and Showtime’s Nurse Jackie…Modern Family nabbed supporting acting noms for Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Sofia Vergara, and Julie Bowen…NO ED O’NEILL?!?…that’s an oversight!…
Thankfully, Edie Falco has a shot to add another Emmy to her mantle, as she is nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Jackie…Toni Collette gets nominated in the same category for United States of Tara…both have a shot at pulling an upset…True Blood snags a Best Drama Series nomination, but receives zero acting noms!…which is sort of understandable…it’s not the best acting on television, but the show and the creators deserve the accolades…and not to be a snob, LOST receives 12 nominations for its final season…the answers will come August 29th…with Jimmy Fallon hosting…Whoo-hoo!
