GLEE Against the Music…

Okay, so the “Britney/Brittany” episode was no Madonna tribute episode, but it was really awesome!  I know many fans may be disillusioned with the many tribute episodes coming up in season 2 (I’m sorry, but the Rocky Horror one should be epic!) however, putting Britney Spears back in the spotlight is not such a bad idea.  Rachel/Lea Michele made the comment that “we grew up with Britney Spears…” and so did many other Glee fans, hey, me too by God!  The episode wasn’t so much a tribute/fantasy, but a way to re-discover all the magic Spears was once capable of.  She’s only 28, almost 29, but Spears may have something left to offer.  I guess my only complaint is that all of these Britney fantasies were experienced at the expense of nitrous oxide, thanks Uncle Jesse!   It’s Glee’s second journey into questionable drug use, after season one when Terry Schuester supplied the gang with speed.  But hey, we all live and learn; that’s how the world of high school is these days, Glee just makes it fun.  I think I may download some of this week’s gems…
Carry on!

No Alarms and No Surprises….However…

Yep, we were all bamboozled by Fox and the American Idol powers-that-be.  As evidence by the picture above, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will be the new judges, with old reliable Randy Jackson rounding out the panel.  I didn’t see Ryan Seacrest’s big, live stream announcement; I saw the J-Lo introduction footage on a local Fox newscast.  The Aerosmith frontman was apparently introduced first, I guess because J-Lo is the bigger name…yeah, right!  By the way, Aerosmith is now pretty much done unless they forge ahead with another singer, which never works.  As for Lopez, I think she’ll be a good judge, although I think part of this process is to re-launch her fledgling career, and if her career doesn’t fly again, at least she’ll be seen by millions of viewers every week on one of the highest rated shows in the history of television.  Steven Tyler as a judge is the question mark; I think he’ll be helpful, but how consistent will he be week to week?
As I got settled in to research more tonight, I discovered there are more changes ahead for Idol.  Specifically, an “in-house” mentor for the entire season; and who would be so crazy to take on this task?  None other than Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman Jimmy Iovine which I think is a great choice, however, he won’t be alone.  Other big producers will be helping contestants behind the scenes this time.  Of course the string attached in this is Idol’s new partnership with music distributor and Interscope parent, Universal Music Group.  Yeah, there’s always a tie-in.  So, you’ll be seeing Iovine a lot, which I don’t mind, he’s one of the most successful A&R guys in the last 20 years, not to mention a former producer, a la Randy Jackson.
Another big change coming to Idol…no more artist-specific theme weeks.  Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, “The styles of music will be more about decades…”  In other words, a rock guy won’t be thrown into country week.  However, a lot of Idol alums end up on the country charts.  Well, without any doubt, all these changes are fine and good, but what’s really missing is talent.  Without the talent, Idol is toast!  You can get all the big names in the music business in the world to help, but it won’t sell the winning Idol’s records.  Hell, even a great producer can’t make that happen.  We’ll see in early 2011.

Dreams Come True!…Maybe…

So I read online today that Lady GaGa is bringing the Monster Ball to…Nashville!!!!  I’m praying to all the Gods I will be lucky enough to see the spectacle; now if I’m really lucky, Scissor Sisters, who will open several spring dates for GaGa, will also be on the bill.  I will die and go to heaven if that’s who the suporting act is.  I checked the Sisters’ dates and their dates with GaGa only go until the end of March, GaGa will be a Bridgestone Arena April 19th.  Now I must consider, although I have some friends who will be in touch, how much I’m willing to pay; and really, I don’t care.  I don’t think $100 is too much to see a once in a lifetime true artist. Oh you know when I got word of this, I spread it around like wildfire, because tickets go on sale this Saturday (9/25) and they will sell out fast!  And by April, GaGa’s new album, Born This Way, should be out, God let it be so.

GaGa, Meat, Lettuce, Taylor, and CHER!!!

I made it a priority last night not to watch the VMAs, at least not until after the True Blood finale (cliffhangers galore!), however, I ended up catching most of the second hour…and yes, Lady GaGa is awesome!…who cares about her meat dress, which by the way, the meat? REAL!…since she wasn’t performing last night, she made an impact with both her fashion and her gay activism…YAY!…GaGa won a record 8 VMAs for her opus “Bad Romance”…she arrived at the ceremony with several military members on her arms, as a sign to get members of Congress and the Senate to finally repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, which a judge ruled unconstitutional over the weekend…when she won Pop Video of the Year, she had to have several people help her lift her gown so she could walk to the stage, luckily, it wasn’t that far away…the other big happening that didn’t happen last night was a reunion of Taylor Swift and Kanye West after West jumped up on stage and ranted about how Beyonce’ had the “best video of all time!”…geez!…they did not appear onstage together, rather, each performed a new song about the experience…and I’m sorry, but Taylor Swift sang like she had dead lice falling off of her…somehow, the crowd ate up the performance, but I guess I didn’t get it…I only caught the last part of Kanye’s performance, which was virtually inaudible…oh well…
Back to GaGa, she made her first post-VMA appearance on the Ellen season premiere which aired today…natually, Ellen respects GaGa, with the exception of that damn meat dress!…and yes, PETA was not happy, but good God!…instead Ellen offered GaGa a different fashion option:
Lettuce!…oh well…
My biggest thrill, which I didn’t see live on the VMAs, CHER returned to present Video of the Year in her “If I Could Turn Back Time” outfit from over 20 years ago!…yeah, she doesn’t quite look the same in it, but it’s friggin’ Cher!…I cannot WAIT to see Burlesque!…anyway, when GaGa received her 8th award, she announced the title of her new album coming out next year:

Deconstructing Prince Poppycock…

To me, Klaus Nomi will always be untouchable…however, Prince Poppycock, I believe, will come very close…John Andrew Quale aka PP, is the breakout star of the latest installment of America’s Got Talent…yeah, there’s some little girl who sings opera…whatever!…PP has been performing in NYC for years, and I’m sorry, but his act will be perfect for Las Vegas…how can it not be?…PP already has the elaborate Vegas-like production down…it’s marvelous…
It’s just too good not to make it to Vegas….and I only learned of PP a few weeks ago; I make it a point usually to skip America’s Got Talent, though I must say, it’s extremely entertaining…I rely heavily on Joel McHale and The Soup for the killer clips!…and you know you will see an excerpt from PP’s latest perfomance on Friday night’s show…I guess I need to vote huh?..oh, here’s what he really looks like:
MEOW!

(UNOFFICIAL!) J-Lo Will Be An Idol Judge After All????…

Holy crap FOX!…This is getting a little old….and I mark this blog as “unofficial” because who knows if any of this is the truth…according to TMZ, a deal between Fox and Jennifer Lopez for Lopez to become a judge on American Idol is “imminent”…this after Lopez was said to be out of control with her diva demands and the network was tired of negoiating…well, all of that?…not true!…the network is said to be in “typical negoiations” with J-Lo…and the kicker?…the deal could be announced as early as next week!…right….and apparently another source is reporting a deal that would’ve brought Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler to the show as a judge has fallen through..again, all of this is unofficial…of course, Randy Jackson is definitely coming back, which was recently confirmed…I just happened to catch Ryan Seacrest and Paula Abdul chatting on the Emmy red carpet the other night…they were going to have lunch soon…LMAO!…Paula had to move on and that’s okay…I guess if an annnouncement about judges is going to be made, Seacrest will be all over it….ass!
Also on the judging front, the following lady is said to be in the running to be on the new US version of The X Factor, debuting next fall:
KATY PERRY!…She’s been one of the better audition judges Idol has ever had and now, she might be rewarded for it by Simon Cowell himself…once again, all of this is very unofficial…one source is even saying Perry will be paid $300,000 a week for her services…however, since Perry is hot right now, who knows what will transpire in a year’s time…
If and when this big American Idol judge announcement takes place, don’t worry, a blog will be written…HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
