I’m really trying my best to keep on blogging, but I get writer’s block, or blogger’s block like everyone else. In a world where Mitt Romney puts women in binders and the St. Louis Cardinals are this close to making a return trip to the World Series, it’s a wacky task to tackle sometimes. I’m talking about blogging. I wanted to write about all the cool shows that are back this fall, and I believe The Walking Dead and American Horror Story Asylum will both deliver. I could gush on and on about those shows, but here are a few must-sees coming up next week….these will be in order that they will air.
1. RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars (Logo)
I am gagging! This will mark the first time for an “All-Stars” edition and it’s going to be extremely fishy and fierce. I’ll let you in on a secret, if you go to Logo’s Facebook page, you can watch the entire the first episode, which premieres Monday night at 9p EST and it will be a tad super-sized with as always, an episode of “Untucked” to follow. Here’s another secret, if you do watch it early, you won’t see the very end to see who sashays away first. But one key element of the competition, which I will NOT divulge, is going to be very interesting. Personally, I’m rooting for: last season’s Miss Congeniality Latrice Motherfucking Royale, Season 2 second runner-up Jujubee, one of last season’s runners-up Chad Michaels and what the hell, Season 3 runner-up Manila Luzon. This will be the first time I’ll get to see some of the season 1 queens in action. Shannel has been featured on RuPaul’s DragU and I like her chances. I vaguely remember Nina Flowers and I don’t remember Tammie Brown, but I’m already loving her! It’s really any queen’s to win, so buckle up! And just a reminder, RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5, according to Wikipedia, will premiere January 28th, 2013. Let’s hope the Mayans were wrong.
2. Happy Endings (ABC)
Happy Endings started out as a mid-season replacement in April last year. I believe it aired on Wednesday nights after Modern Family, but I didn’t watch it. God only knows what else I was watching. Shame on me! This is one of the best sitcoms on TV right now. Yes, it has a heavy Friends vibe, but the writing and the actors are spot on hilarious. I miss Casey Wilson on Saturday Night Live, thankfully, she’s found a character that is just as wacky and just as irrational as any she played on SNL. Also in the cast is Damon Wayans, Jr., who was originally cast in FOX’s now hit sitcom New Girl, but when Happy Endings was renewed for a second season, he had to leave Jess, Nick, and Schmidt after the pilot. I’m especially fond of Adam Pally as a frat-boy, slovely gay dude Max; he’s snarky and hilarious. Okay, I can’t display the video, but if you have time and you are curious, check out last season’s Halloween episode. Season 3 premieres Tuesday night at 9pE/8pC…tune in!
3. Project Runway All-Stars, Season 2 (Lifetime)
Premiering on the heels of Season 10 of Project Runway (I wasn’t happy with the winner) get ready for round 2 of All-Star designers returning for redemption. To be honest, some of these candidates are lame. Peach? Casanova? Suede? really? On the flip side we’ll see Tim Gunn’s “boyfriend” Andrae Gonzalo from Season 2. Who can forget Santino Rice’s Tim Gunn impression?
We’ll see the return of two Season 3 competitors, Kayne Gillaspie and runner-up Uli Herzner. And yes, Season 1 second runner-up Wendy Pepper is back! How old is she now, 70? Bravo and Season 1 seems so far away. I’m bored with the rest with exceptions of Season 9 folks, WKU grad Laura Kathleen and first runner-up and poor man’s Scissor Sister member Joshua McKinley. The madness begins Thursday night at 9pE/8pC on Lifetime.
