American Idol…the 180 Degrees Edition…

In just 24 hours time, Ellen DeGeneres quits Idol, then today, it’s reported Kara DioGuardi has been served her walking papers!…of course it’s also rumored that super Idol producer and So You Think You Can Dance judge, Nigel Lythgoe is coming back…Ellen didn’t help  Idol, and she’s been quoted as telling Fox that the show just “wasn’t the right fit” for her…not many people were oblivious to that statement…of course Idol didn’t fit Ellen!…she always said she didn’t like to hurt people’s feelings, but I’m not sure that’s the real reason she’s leaving…DeGeneres is starting her own record label, which doesn’t really make any sense, since most of her roster, I predict, will consist of Idol rejects…I hope Alex Lambert hasn’t signed a deal yet…I wouldn’t necessarily call Ellen’s stint as a judge a FAIL, but it wasn’t great…on the other hand…
I’m really glad to see Kara DioGuardi go!…again, it’s not that she was a bad judge, she just didn’t really captivate the audience in quite the way Paula did…she always came off as a little bit mean and clueless at the same time…however, she still has a good behind-the-scenes career ahead of her, so all is not lost…you never know, she may show up on TV again…and at the moment, she has reason to cheer, Carrie Underwood’s “Undo It”, which she helped write, just went to #1 on the Country charts…she’ll be all right…
Well as news broke DioGuardi got the axe, a new judge has already been hired:
Yes, Jennifer Lopez will be a judge in season 10…and why is Steven Tyler there?…he’s rumored to be the final piece of the judging puzzle…Randy Jackson’s contract ends after season 10, so as far as we know, he’s staying put…Supposedly, Fox also met with Elton John and Justin Timberlake…and they met a little while ago with someone who I’m still trying to figure out why…Chris Isaak…now, this is all good and fine, but I still think the talent is hurting the show, not the judges…many dates on current Idols Live tour were pulled due to poor ticket sales…and to be fair, we won’t know how the recent winner, Lee DeWyze, and runner-up, Crystal Bowersox, will succeed until each releases a full album later this year…I’m already very leery of how each will do, especially DeWyze…
In the end, it’s gonna take a miracle to revive American Idol…that’s it!

If I Had…Tickets!!!!

I’m not sure my quest to see Glambert in concert will pan out…yes, he’s coming to Evansville, IN too–September 1st….much, much closer to me than Nashville (SOLD OUT) and Louisville (SOLD OUT)…I spoke with someone the other night on whether he liked Adam Lambert or not…he said NO!…I was a little miffed, but he then explained that Lambert is not making the best choices, thus far, with his career…I think Adam being out is wonderful, but is it hurting his possible pop domination????…that seemed to be my new friend’s opinion…no hating of course…I mean if he can sell out two cities, which yes, are gay-friendly in the bible belt, why can’t he get bigger?…it’s a comfort to know “Whataya Want From Me” at least cracked the top 10, but it’s beginning to sink on the Billboard Top 100…upon further investigation, all of new American Idol Lee DeWyze’s charting efforts are dropping even faster!…well, duh!…it all comes from the curse of this terrible season…I’m still not sure where Crystal Bowersox will end up in all of this…I fear she will sink like a rock as well..hopefully, she can work with some good writers and producers…but then again, she’s not a traditional pop star…we’ll just have to see…and if anyone can hook me up with tickets to any of those Glambert’s shows…let me know!
Oh and here’s Adam’s new video for “If I Had You”….girl, lose the mullet!…LMAO!

Lee Who???…It’s All About This Guy…

Okay, we all knew Crystal was not going to win…and I know this is mean-spirited, but Lee DeWyze will be forgotten, at least outside of American Idol circles, in 6 months, maybe less…I won’t rant yet again about how this season was terrible…I just hope the Idol producers finally realize the same thing…I was just as cynical watching the finale as I was watching the last few weeks…I’m just very disappointed…
The show itself had some nice moments…Paula returned with bad stand-up sending her former nemesis Simon Cowell on his merry way…and was it just me or did the other judges look like they were a little surprised Paula was there??…oh hell, they knew the Simon farewell was not complete unless she was there…as far as weird moments go…Dane Cook sang a song consisting of some of Simon’s most famous Idol zingers and at the end, some of the Idol rejects stormed the stage and I think it was planned…then some of them stared to hog a microphone, including my personal fave, Norman Gentle/Nick Mitchell…they cut off that trainwreck very quickly and cut to commercial…another weird and beyond weird moment was when Idol gave Gen. Larry Platt and “Pants on the Ground” some more airtime…complete with saggy panted hip hop dancers with their caps turned sideways…all of a sudden, William Hung popped up…Good Lord why?…moving on…
The musical performances were hit and miss…the typical pairing of an Idol contestant with a music act was the norm of course…the best?:
Yes!!!…I’d say Bret Michaels’ appearance was the biggest surprise and the best kept secret…the show started out with all the top 12 in school uniforms and singing “School’s Out”…complete with Orithani and Alice Cooper!!!…yes, Idol got a little odd there…but it was cool…well Christina Aguliera got her 15 minutes after a week that started off with the cancellation of her summer tour, and she did okay with a ballad from her new album…when I started watching the show live, Hall & Oates joined the Idol guys for a medley…the Crystal/Alanis Morrisette duet was awesome, I guess Alanis had to stand in for the elusive Melissa Etheridge, who could not appear on the finale because she appeared a few weeks ago on Dancing With the Stars????…oh those pesky TV contracts…Lee got to jam with Chicago..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…he’s from there you know!…UGH!…another surprise, I guess, Janet Jackson, who was looking really good…new short haircut…I likey!…
The show climax? a reunion of all the Idol winners, but one was missing!…and I didn’t even notice David Cook was absent…and many other former Idol contestants joined in on stage…but NO Clay Aiken or Adam Lambert!!!…wrong!…the story with Glambert’s abscence, he’s on vocal rest before he kicks off his tour…I’d say that’s a fair reason…he’s a smart one…unfortunately for me, his Louisville show on July 10th is sold out…but…he’s also appearing in Nashville at the Ryman on July 7th…PLEASE PRAY I GET TICKETS!….
So, Simon is gone….thank you sir for these past 9 seasons and best of luck with your future projects…The X-Factor better be good Cowell!

Paula’s Back! and Why I Never Watched Lost…

Yes children, Paula Abdul, the judge you love to ridicule, will be back on primetime TV this fall…Paula will serve as the executive producer, judge, and mentor for a new CBS dancing competition reality series…wait for it….Got To Dance…thank God for this!…and it just might air opposite American Idol…as will Simon’s new American version of The X Factor…WOW!…Cowell had said in his sit down interview with Oprah last week, Paula’s departure has affected the viewership of Idol…didn’t really need a genius to tell me that…and he also said he keeps in touch with her…awwwwww…I guess it was a good thing she got out when she did…Cowell also said he didn’t want Ellen DeGeneres to take his seat on Idol…which is a little harsh, but he’s right…he said his replacement needs to be someone who knows what he/she is talking about with some music industry cred…however, I don’t know what will save the colossal sinking ship which is this season’s Idol…if Lee wins, which he probably will, he’ll be forgotten in a year’s time and if Crystal pull off the upset, we may forget her too, but I hope not…
Okay, I feel I should address why I never watched LOST until the last 20 minutes last night…to be honest, it just never interested me…and I know I’m the world’s biggest nerd when it comes to sci-fi/fantasy movies and shows…LOST just never got me…when you have as many shows to watch during a regular TV season as I do, LOST never made the cut…I know one day, I’ll catch up on reruns or I may even go out on a limb and rent each season, but now that I know how the series ended, I’m not sure…no big deal..I have several co-workers who were fanatic and one of them told me basically everything that happened in the show, so I may have not LOST out…tee-hee!…one thing I want to say, Michael Emerson aka Ben Linus, should play Klaus Nomi STAT!
That is all!

Ronnie James Dio…Now HE Was a Singer…

**I want to start with some quick notes…after my many frustrations with American Idol this season, I will no longer be blogging about the show…I will continue to live tweet, but that’s it…and if Crystal Bowersox wins, I’ll follow her career…all right**
We lost one of the best singers of any genre Sunday morning…Ronnie James Dio was 67…I was surprised that there were pre-mature reports of his death buzzing around the web on Saturday…Dio’s wife, Wendy, reported he had not died, but he was not doing well…Dio was diagnosed with stomach cancer last summer and he had to cancel a tour with Heaven and Hell–Black Sabbath without Ozzy…Dio was recruited by Ritchie Blackmore for his new band Rainbow in the 70’s after Blackmore quit Deep Purple…and Dio was tapped to take over for Ozzy in Black Sabbath when Ozzy left to pursue a solo career…Dio then went on to dominate in his own solo career…he was a metal God and he had the voice!…I love his solo stuff, his stuff with Heaven and Hell, but I wanted to share one of my favorite Rainbow tracks…RIP Ronnie James Dio:

American Idol: Baby Dyke Goes Down!

Okay, I guess that title is a little naughty…but who the hell cares at this point…yes, my little Baby Dyke, 17-year-old Aaron Kelly, has finally exhausted the ears and the eyes of America…and I couldn’t be happier, although I think he wore out his welcome from the very start…those of us hoping for another Kevin “Chicken Little” Covais or another David Archuleta or hell, another Sanjaya were fully disappointed…okay, I wasn’t disappoined…Kelly fell into an endless stride of predictable ballads yet he managed to make the top 5…which brings me to yet another rant about this season:
WHAT THE HELL HAS HAPPENED TO AMERICAN IDOL???…more importantly, what has happened to their audience?…this Tuesday’s “Sinatra Night” was the lowest rated show since the FIRST season, yeah, all the way back in 2002…I know I’ve ranted and I’ve ranted, but I’m just about through…Even front-runner, Crystal Bowersox, is boring me now…which I’m not surprised…so who do we have left?…Big Mike is hanging in there, bottom 2 for the umpteenth time this week…man, I don’t know how, but he may just make the finals as I originally predicted…I have a lot of contempt for Big Mike, but I would still rather see him in the final instead of Lee DeWyze…Casey James has lived up to the “fly under the radar” moniker I gave him weeks ago, and I am a bit surprised at that…here’s what I think will happen…I predict either Cystal or Lee will slip up next week, which by the way, it’s songs from the movies with rumored-to-fill-Simon’s-seat-next-year guest mentor, Jamie Foxx…and one of them will land in the bottom with Big Mike, who else?!?…Big Mike goes or Lee goes if he’s in the bottom 2…and even though I have been bored by Mamasox lately, she’s still good to go in my book…Casey is definitely the wild card since he avoided the bottom 2 last night…Casey can’t win, but can he make to the finals???…I see Lee as this year’s Kris Allen, he has no charisma, no humor…and his style is older than dirt…there’s nothing fresh about him…Big Mike–zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…Casey has virtually the same style as DeWyze, but a little more determination…and Crystal?…it’s hers to lose or finish second, which finishing second on Idol is a bigger blessing…I won’t name names, you know who they are…
I’m just sick of it all, as I am this time every year…and I can’t wait until GLEE doesn’t get cut off every week on my DVR!!!..outrageous!

Honey I’m Home!

So, we say goodbye to the female Adam Lambert…hey, in the end, she was NO Adam Lambert…she got worse instead of getting better…she became manic and she talked way too long to the judges…and do you think Kara would really hang out with her??…who knows…
I had extremely high hopes for glassblower Siobhan Mangus…she brought that quirky vibe to the show although in the end, she out-quirked her talent…it’s all proof America would still like their pop stars without funny hair and elaborate costumes…but wait…doesn’t Mama Sox fit that bill?…well, maybe not the elaborate costume part…and folks, Crystal is the only female left in the competition…she will have to outlast 2 mediocre singers (Aaron Kelly and Casey James), 1 ego-maniac (Big Mike), and the guy who can be energizing, but still very boring with no originality (Lee Dewyze)…
I mean next week is the songs of Frank Sinatra with Harry Connick, Jr. as mentor…what can Casey and Lee do with Sinatra????…I can tell you what Mike and Aaron can do, boring-flatline ballads…it will be interesting to see what Crystal does…she definitely needs to bring back the power in her voice, let’s face it, this week was not good…and there were fears she might visit the bottom 3…she didn’t seem to sing out at all…she was probably intimidated by the arrangement, which I was not a fan of…I fear she may be losing just a little bit of steam…which may land her in second place when all is said and done…however, finishing second on Idol is not a bad thing…GLAMBERT!..hello!…speaking of Lambert, he tweeted out last night that “Whataya Want From Me” has now gone platinum in the US…not bad for a runner-up…

It’s Really Sad When…

American Idol, if only for one night, is NOT about this year’s finalists…Adam Lambert brought it bitches!…he was clever to rearrange his hit “Whataya Want From Me” for his return Idol performance and it was a little manic, but totally awesome…I’m really surprised there wasn’t a disclaimer before his elaborate Incredible Hulk meets Laser Floyd production:
And in case you missed it, two contestants who should’ve been voted off weeks ago, Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens, said their farewells…Garcia’s elimination came almost 15 minutes into the broadcast, yeah Idol still thinks they can change things up, but it’s really getting tired…of course the drama was amped up again when it was revealed Turban, Big Mike-HUH????, and Katie were in the bottom…well, the fake bottom, oh hell, I don’t want to explain it…in short, Big Mike was stuck up there again for no reason at all except to remind viewers he was saved for the umpteenth time…yes, he will be around for two more weeks, since Idol Gives Back is next week…and I think I’ll take a look at it, but I won’t be glued to the TV…I really loved the first Idol Gives Back, since then?…not wild about it…it just prolongs the stay of the sub-par talent still in the competition…and I’m hoping the finalists will sing their best, because in reality, folks won’t be tuning in to see them, they will tuning in to see the established stars…am I right?…as always, Bowersox all the way!!!!

Instant Karma’s Gonna Get You…

Yes, I know “Instant Karma” is strictly a Lennon song, but how appropriate is it right now?…very…I guess the only reason I’m sticking with American Idol at least one more week is because Adam Lambert is next week’s mentor…other than that, I may be done with a show I’ve loved for so many years…I wonder if Dancing with the Stars beating Idol in the ratings Tuesday night had anything to do with Michael Lynche being saved last night…I would say it’s probable…I guess to say I and many other fans are not happy with last night’s dog and pony show is an understatement….so, why was Big Mike saved?….here are some theories…
He’s an okay singer, but not great, and he won’t win…I know a few blogs back, I predicted Big Mike and Crystal Bowersox would be in the finals…but now?…I don’t think so and last night just ruined everything…a friend of mine thinks Lynche isn’t getting votes, therefore, they show him on camera as much as possible…he’s a big personality, but a very mediocre performer…he can’t really switch up anything he does vocally…no matter the theme…I’m not a fan of his ego and I’m really not a fan of the pouting act he pulled when it was revealed he was the bottom vote getter…it’s a competition and someone will always lose or go home…of course next week, 2 contestants will be packing their bags…and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them is Big Mike…he had his big save moment, now he’s done…seriously, he’s through…I think the judges and the producers were very scared of getting rid of him, and not just because of his size and his ego…they need him…but I don’t care one iota about him at all…I mean look at who won’t be saved: Crystal, Siobhan, Casey, hell even Lee…Aaron, Katie, and Tim are biding their time, because they don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell to win…I guess the odd man out is Andrew…shock and awe as he was told he was staying another week….I’d rather see him than Big Mike stick around…
AAARGH!

Didi, Diddy, and The Clash of the Titans???…

Well, that picture isn’t as big as I would’ve liked, but what the hell, Didi Benami is now gone from American Idol…last night’s show was so bizarre, I mean what the hell with The Clash of the Titans plug/cross promotion at the beginning???…so weird…yes, the film is in theaters tomorrow…and I must confess, even though I’m a die-hard fan of the original, I want to see the new one, in 3-D damnit!
Now onto the results, Andrew Garcia definitely redeemed himself, although I still think he needs to kick it up just a few more notches to stick around…I guess the biggest sensation from Tuesday night was Lee Dewyze, who I totally omitted from last week’s diatribe, because by last week, he was forgettable…I still don’t think he can win, but he’s proven himself worthy of staying in the competition…Big Mike stays and what was going on with the fake ponytail thing?…he’s really getting on my nerves…Casey James continues to fly under the radar, however, I have a new candidate for flying under the radar and I can’t believe I ever would have thought this…Katie Stevens…why?…she is turning out less than par performances, but I actually think she’s ever so slightly improving…I had her gone weeks ago, even before the top 12, but now?…I don’t know…again, she can’t win, but I hope she enjoys the tour…well one contestant who faltered Tuesday night and almost landed in the bottom 3 for the first time…Siobhan Mangus?!?…bless her heart…her lower range was terrible and I think even I am tiring of her screaming out notes…she’s gotta get back on track next week…Aaron Kelly, he’s still around, but so boring…
Crystal Bowersox is still the only front-runner…and she’s changed up her game by playing piano and then getting up from the piano and walking, only a foot, in high heels…wow!…next week’s theme is the Lennon-McCartney songbook and you know she’s gonna rip it up!…and I predict, the guitar will be back…oh yeah….
Bottom 3 last night, Katie Stevens, though she was sent back to the couch quite quickly, Tim Urban–zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!…and Didi Benami, who probably was a front-runner at one time, but she was awful this week and she paid the price…no save for Benami either, though I was a little scared the judges might keep her around…she didn’t seem too upset when she was informed she wouldn’t be saved…eh, she still gets the tour…
The most bizarre moment of the night was when Diddy Dirty Money performed…am I missing something???…did he change his name again?!?…if you noticed right before his performance, a caption came up that said “strobe lighting will be used in the next performance”…WTF?!?…So is American Idol turning into the next Mary Hart?….the next Japnanese anime?…oh boy, how invalid can they get?….
Okay, I hope I didn’t leave anyone out, next week: Lennon-McCartney….peace!
