GaGa, Meat, Lettuce, Taylor, and CHER!!!

I made it a priority last night not to watch the VMAs, at least not until after the True Blood finale (cliffhangers galore!), however, I ended up catching most of the second hour…and yes, Lady GaGa is awesome!…who cares about her meat dress, which by the way, the meat? REAL!…since she wasn’t performing last night, she made an impact with both her fashion and her gay activism…YAY!…GaGa won a record 8 VMAs for her opus “Bad Romance”…she arrived at the ceremony with several military members on her arms, as a sign to get members of Congress and the Senate to finally repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, which a judge ruled unconstitutional over the weekend…when she won Pop Video of the Year, she had to have several people help her lift her gown so she could walk to the stage, luckily, it wasn’t that far away…the other big happening that didn’t happen last night was a reunion of Taylor Swift and Kanye West after West jumped up on stage and ranted about how Beyonce’ had the “best video of all time!”…geez!…they did not appear onstage together, rather, each performed a new song about the experience…and I’m sorry, but Taylor Swift sang like she had dead lice falling off of her…somehow, the crowd ate up the performance, but I guess I didn’t get it…I only caught the last part of Kanye’s performance, which was virtually inaudible…oh well…
Back to GaGa, she made her first post-VMA appearance on the Ellen season premiere which aired today…natually, Ellen respects GaGa, with the exception of that damn meat dress!…and yes, PETA was not happy, but good God!…instead Ellen offered GaGa a different fashion option:
Lettuce!…oh well…
My biggest thrill, which I didn’t see live on the VMAs, CHER returned to present Video of the Year in her “If I Could Turn Back Time” outfit from over 20 years ago!…yeah, she doesn’t quite look the same in it, but it’s friggin’ Cher!…I cannot WAIT to see Burlesque!…anyway, when GaGa received her 8th award, she announced the title of her new album coming out next year:

American Idol…the 180 Degrees Edition…

In just 24 hours time, Ellen DeGeneres quits Idol, then today, it’s reported Kara DioGuardi has been served her walking papers!…of course it’s also rumored that super Idol producer and So You Think You Can Dance judge, Nigel Lythgoe is coming back…Ellen didn’t help  Idol, and she’s been quoted as telling Fox that the show just “wasn’t the right fit” for her…not many people were oblivious to that statement…of course Idol didn’t fit Ellen!…she always said she didn’t like to hurt people’s feelings, but I’m not sure that’s the real reason she’s leaving…DeGeneres is starting her own record label, which doesn’t really make any sense, since most of her roster, I predict, will consist of Idol rejects…I hope Alex Lambert hasn’t signed a deal yet…I wouldn’t necessarily call Ellen’s stint as a judge a FAIL, but it wasn’t great…on the other hand…
I’m really glad to see Kara DioGuardi go!…again, it’s not that she was a bad judge, she just didn’t really captivate the audience in quite the way Paula did…she always came off as a little bit mean and clueless at the same time…however, she still has a good behind-the-scenes career ahead of her, so all is not lost…you never know, she may show up on TV again…and at the moment, she has reason to cheer, Carrie Underwood’s “Undo It”, which she helped write, just went to #1 on the Country charts…she’ll be all right…
Well as news broke DioGuardi got the axe, a new judge has already been hired:
Yes, Jennifer Lopez will be a judge in season 10…and why is Steven Tyler there?…he’s rumored to be the final piece of the judging puzzle…Randy Jackson’s contract ends after season 10, so as far as we know, he’s staying put…Supposedly, Fox also met with Elton John and Justin Timberlake…and they met a little while ago with someone who I’m still trying to figure out why…Chris Isaak…now, this is all good and fine, but I still think the talent is hurting the show, not the judges…many dates on current Idols Live tour were pulled due to poor ticket sales…and to be fair, we won’t know how the recent winner, Lee DeWyze, and runner-up, Crystal Bowersox, will succeed until each releases a full album later this year…I’m already very leery of how each will do, especially DeWyze…
In the end, it’s gonna take a miracle to revive American Idol…that’s it!

Paula’s Back! and Why I Never Watched Lost…

Yes children, Paula Abdul, the judge you love to ridicule, will be back on primetime TV this fall…Paula will serve as the executive producer, judge, and mentor for a new CBS dancing competition reality series…wait for it….Got To Dance…thank God for this!…and it just might air opposite American Idol…as will Simon’s new American version of The X Factor…WOW!…Cowell had said in his sit down interview with Oprah last week, Paula’s departure has affected the viewership of Idol…didn’t really need a genius to tell me that…and he also said he keeps in touch with her…awwwwww…I guess it was a good thing she got out when she did…Cowell also said he didn’t want Ellen DeGeneres to take his seat on Idol…which is a little harsh, but he’s right…he said his replacement needs to be someone who knows what he/she is talking about with some music industry cred…however, I don’t know what will save the colossal sinking ship which is this season’s Idol…if Lee wins, which he probably will, he’ll be forgotten in a year’s time and if Crystal pull off the upset, we may forget her too, but I hope not…
Okay, I feel I should address why I never watched LOST until the last 20 minutes last night…to be honest, it just never interested me…and I know I’m the world’s biggest nerd when it comes to sci-fi/fantasy movies and shows…LOST just never got me…when you have as many shows to watch during a regular TV season as I do, LOST never made the cut…I know one day, I’ll catch up on reruns or I may even go out on a limb and rent each season, but now that I know how the series ended, I’m not sure…no big deal..I have several co-workers who were fanatic and one of them told me basically everything that happened in the show, so I may have not LOST out…tee-hee!…one thing I want to say, Michael Emerson aka Ben Linus, should play Klaus Nomi STAT!
That is all!

American Idol..Fight or Flight?

Well, I was not satisfied with most of the first cuts last night on Idol…I’m still not caring much about the guys…Tyler Grady was supposedly a surprise, but not to me…he was a one-trick pony with his 70’s crap and I hope he has a good life…Joe Munoz, again, not surprised, he had as much personality as a gnat and he had no star quality…that’s a keyword this season…STAR…and so far, there are no real stars…
On the ladies’ cuts…I was mortified to learn both Katie Stevens and Lacey Brown (who I learned has ties to Owensboro KY) survived week one…HOW???…Janell Wheeler being cut was the biggest surprise to me…she was good looking and she had a decent voice, enough to get her past week one…as for Ashley Rodiguez, she turned out to be the biggest disappointment of week one…here’s what I don’t understand, they coined her as a possible “diva” this season…huh?!?…is it just because she took on Leona Lewis’ “Happy”?…I’m sorry, but I didn’t see a diva at all, I saw someone, who in the beginning, could sing, but couldn’t handle the live show…
Thus I’m left to ponder my continuing support for this show…I already know it’s going to be a rough one..and with Simon leaving at the end of the season, I predict the show will not last beyond, maybe, one more season…the talent this year is very scarce, mostly because we’ve all seen the same type of singers muddle through the competition…yes, Crystal Bowersox (did she not look so out of place in the group song last night???) is fresh and is original, but how long will she last?…if the mindset of America has changed in terms of just choosing a bonafide pop star, then she has a great chance of going far…and I really want a girl to win this season, but someone, besides Bowersox, has to make it more competitive…and again, so far, I’m over the guys…boring!
Even Ellen will have a tough time, but I still love her!

American Idol Top 12 Ladies: A Crap Shoot!

Okay, so crap shoot is not the best way to describe last night, but come on!…the ladies need to pick it up, however, the top 12 this year will be comprised of 6 guys and 6 girls…so far?…I don’t see 6 strong girls…in fact, I see only 2, maybe 3…song choices last night were not too good…the worst?…Lacey Brown with the Dixie Chicks’ version of “Landslide”…so bad, so boring…and this is a girl who almost made the top 24 last year…instead, fruitcake Megan Joy made it, and we all know how that turned out…OMG!…I see that burden as a curse…I predict she’s definitely in the bottom Thursday…who else will be in the bottom?…for sure, Katie Stevens, who was so timid and so old sounding on Michael Buble’s “Feeling Good”…she has no star quality or power to her voice…I hate to say this but either Haeley Vaughn or Janell Wheeler may be visiting the bottom for the first time tomorrow night…Vaughn was just annoying and obnoxious in her rendition of The Beatles, “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”…Simon pointed out she is not defining herself as she did when she walked in to audition for Hollywood…she originally intended to go country, but she’s already lost her way…I’m not a fan of Janell Wheeler’s voice…granted, all of the ladies last night were nervous in their first live show, but Wheeler just couldn’t work completely through “What About Love”…she annoys the hell out of me too…
Okay, I move on to who impressed me…first, I disagree with the panel on Paige Miles, she’s okay…Simon deemed her “..the best singer in the competition…”, not sure about that…but I see a lot of potential in her and Ashley Rodriguez…I was also impressed with someone I didn’t expect to be…Katelyn Epperly really made The Beatles’ “Oh Darlin'” her own, but her lipstick blinded me!…Lilly Scott and Didi Benami are this year’s Megan Joys, but they are a billion times better…they just have to find their niche’…Siobhan Magnus was okay, I wasn’t expecting her to impress…she has that musical theater quality and it will not pull her through every week….
And in the end, I still think Crystal Bowersox is the best lady in the competition…yes, she’s a coffeehouse performer and she really doesn’t belong on Idol, but she’s fresh and she will stand out…I just hope we don’t see her guitar and her harmonica every single week…
Props to Ellen on her first live show!…I just hope she doesn’t become emotional when the cuts begin…

Happy Birthday!

To Ellen DeGeneres…52 today!…I don’t know where to begin on my love of Ellen…it started with some modest stand-up comedy on HBO, moved on to These Friends of Mine later renamed Ellen on ABC…then she came out!…via her sitcom and the world went into a tizzy…”The Puppy Episode” garnered record ratings and a Best Writing in a Comedy Series Emmy for Ellen…however, during this madness, Ellen disappointed me and probably a lot of my fellow ladies when she started dating actress and cerifiable nutbar, Anne Heche…I never saw their relationship as geniune…it was definitely indulgent as Heche directed her then girlfriend in the final vignette of HBO’s If These Walls Could Talk 2 in 2000…at that point, I didn’t really care for Ellen anymore…yes, she went on to star in another self-titled sitcom, The Ellen Show, for CBS, but it just didn’t have the goofiness of her original series…it did have Betty White!…then Ellen vanished for a while…oh sure, she hosted the Emmys, the Grammys, and she would eventually host the Oscars, but her ultimate comeback came in the form of her own talk show, and stay with me…The Ellen DeGeneres Show…the show has won a total of 25 Emmys…and DeGeneres continues to delight the masses, and me, with her rambling, yet clever sense of humor…in just a few weeks, Ellen will venture into new territory, as a judge on American Idol…I’m very excited, but maybe just a tad cynical…I don’t like it when hit shows, although Idol has not raked in its usual ratings at least the last two seasons, shakes things up…don’t even get me started on The L Word…all in all, Ellen will be great and I hope she’s able to completely embrace her new role as a critic aka normal music buying person on the judging panel…and I’m very glad Ellen finally settled down and got married to actress Portia de Rossi…they are uber-cute together…
Ah, sweet love…later!

Well Played Sir…

Simon X Factor
Just as we’re about to suffer through another bazillion weeks of bad auditions for season 9 of American Idol…Simon Cowell trumps everybody yesterday, and announces this his last season on the show…he’s prepping The X Factor, which will premiere stateside in the fall of 2011…and wouldn’t you know, The X Factor is another Cowell creation…and my question is: how in the hell is The X Factor diffrent from American Idol?…the answer is, not much…the only difference is the X Factor contestants are divided into groups of 4 and each of the judges mentors a group…judges on past British X Factors have included, Sharon Osbourne, Danii Minogue, Cheyl Cole, and Cowell himself…the show produced Leona Lewis, who is still a rising a star in America…rumor is Paula Abdul may join the American version, since Cowell has said he would love to work with her again…and hell, she needs the job!…note that new Idol judge, Ellen DeGeneres, will not be seen until the top 12 are set…I think that’s one reason Cowell is bowing out this season, he probably secretly thinks the show will suffer because of DeGeneres…that’s my theory…I still think Ellen will be a fresh addition to the judges’ table…however, I’m a little skeptical…and you may wonder will American Idol go on without Simon?…yes, it will!…I don’t know why, but Cowell recently signed a contract for 3 MORE SEASONS…which will be honored I’m sure…so you know, we have at least 2 more seasons to look forward to…UGH!…
As for the onslaught of auditions that start airing tonight…I’m in!…and I’m usually not this enthusiastic about it…maybe it’s because I’ll be on the lookout for the next Glambert…or the next Kevin Covais aka Chicken Little…or the next Melinda Doolittle…or, well you get my point…
Happy Watching!
(NOTE: You may have noticed the link for my upcoming live Project Runway blog is missing…I’m still playing with Cover it Live and Thursday will hopefully be a good test run…I know I say every year I’m not going to do another PR blog, but since the show is back in NYC, I thought I would give it another shot…come back Thursday!)

Ke$ha?…I’m intrigued!…

However, I’m still forming an opinion…Here’s what I’ve learned about Ke$ha…she’s 22, her mother was a singer, she lived in Nashville at one time and I think she had some sort of songwriting deal there…she is the featured female vocalist on Flo Rida’s huge number one “Right Round”…and she appeared in Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” video…oh yeah, the other day I read, by no great suprise, she’s bisexual or heteroflexible…”Tik Tok” is growing on me…I really didn’t know what to make of it at first…mostly because when she raps she sounds eerily like Alix Olson or Ani DiFranco…brownie points if you know who Alix Olson is!!!…
Ke$ha’s debut album, Animal, was released yesterday and what better way to promote it than with a performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show…I had never seen Ke$ha perform, so I was very interested and I was very impressed…although, I think she stole Adam Lambert’s keyboard player…no, not the one he deep-throated on the American Music Awards, the chick you keep seeing in his band on TV performances…eh:

The Idol Winner Curse Continues!…Don’t Act Shocked!

Well, to no one’s surprise, and I hope Simon Cowell is included in this group, Kris Allen’s debut CD is not selling well…sales projections for the first week? 80,000 copies…and I hate to say this, but I kind of feel sorry for Allen…he did not get to perform on the American Music Awards, he just presented an award…you blinked and you missed him…and we all know who stole the show and had people talking the next day…once again, in comparison, Adam Lambert’s cd is projected to sell at least 225,000 copies…we knew all along Lambert was the better singer and better performer, but Kris Allen somehow siphoned Adam’s votes in the finale meant for Danny Gokey, who by the way, is releasing a COUNTRY album soon…YIKES!…in other Idol releases, Allison Ireheta’s debut cd hits stores Tuesday and it’s gotten decent reviews…I haven’t really heard anything from it, and I’m still not a fan…sure, she has that smoky, rock and roll voice, but she’s still very young…it will take a while for Ireheta to reach her musical performance peak…in time, she will be really good…however, Kris Allen, I’m not sure what it will take to get him more attention, he’s vanilla and he’s a copycat of other acoustic artists, like Dave Matthews and Jason Mraz…the only type of artist giving Allen hope is John Mayer, his new cd, Battle Studies, is currently at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 album chart…he even duets with country-pop sensation Taylor Swift on one of the tracks…you have strike while the iron is hot!…
Kris Allen will survive, but for how long?…I still have the same fears about Glambert, his every move is now being heavily scrutinized…he will be on The Ellen DeGeneres Show tomorrow performing, “Whataya Want From Me”…DeGeneres, speaking on her new gig as an Idol judge, said she likes him, but didn’t like him sticking out his tongue when he hit his high notes…I’m sure that will be brought up…I think she’s half-joking, she tends to do that…speaking of Ellen, I’m getting my new pixie haircut tomorrow!…it’s not going to be as funky as Ellen’s, but it will be very different…I’ve NEVER had it cut that short…I will post pictures!
bye.
