I Pick You?

You may have noticed during the Super Bowl, the first promos ran for the American version of The X-Factor…it’s very dramatic, yet simple:
Cowell is upping the ante with the prize for X-Factor; a $5 million record contract for the winner!  Wow!  I’m guessing several Idol winners would have appreciated that kind of bread.  You know the ones I’m talking about, Taylor Hicks, Reuben Studdard, Kris Allen, etc.  Geez!  Not only is Cowell feeding the piggy, he’s also considering Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, British version judge Cheryl Cole, and…one Paula Abdul as judges.  By the way, is anyone really watching Live to Dance?  Cowell is very clever in possibly bringing back Abdul for a whole new show.  American Idol is doing fine without him, and he’s said, although he hasn’t watched a whole episode, he’s pleased with what he’s seen.  Right.  NOTE: I may blog about Idol once the finalists are set.  I just fear too many golden tickets have been passed out this time.  J-Lo is WAY too much of a pushover and Tyler? well, he’s been the wildcard for sure and that’s what he’s supposed to be.  I’m a little scared for him when the live shows start; Seacrest will need to learn to work a delay button.  I can see it now, a button with Tyler’s face on it, it just might happen.
As for auditions for The X-Factor,  they begin March 27 in LA.  Idol’s Hollywood rounds begin airing tonight….lots of weeding out to do.

No Alarms and No Surprises….However…

Yep, we were all bamboozled by Fox and the American Idol powers-that-be.  As evidence by the picture above, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will be the new judges, with old reliable Randy Jackson rounding out the panel.  I didn’t see Ryan Seacrest’s big, live stream announcement; I saw the J-Lo introduction footage on a local Fox newscast.  The Aerosmith frontman was apparently introduced first, I guess because J-Lo is the bigger name…yeah, right!  By the way, Aerosmith is now pretty much done unless they forge ahead with another singer, which never works.  As for Lopez, I think she’ll be a good judge, although I think part of this process is to re-launch her fledgling career, and if her career doesn’t fly again, at least she’ll be seen by millions of viewers every week on one of the highest rated shows in the history of television.  Steven Tyler as a judge is the question mark; I think he’ll be helpful, but how consistent will he be week to week?
As I got settled in to research more tonight, I discovered there are more changes ahead for Idol.  Specifically, an “in-house” mentor for the entire season; and who would be so crazy to take on this task?  None other than Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman Jimmy Iovine which I think is a great choice, however, he won’t be alone.  Other big producers will be helping contestants behind the scenes this time.  Of course the string attached in this is Idol’s new partnership with music distributor and Interscope parent, Universal Music Group.  Yeah, there’s always a tie-in.  So, you’ll be seeing Iovine a lot, which I don’t mind, he’s one of the most successful A&R guys in the last 20 years, not to mention a former producer, a la Randy Jackson.
Another big change coming to Idol…no more artist-specific theme weeks.  Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, “The styles of music will be more about decades…”  In other words, a rock guy won’t be thrown into country week.  However, a lot of Idol alums end up on the country charts.  Well, without any doubt, all these changes are fine and good, but what’s really missing is talent.  Without the talent, Idol is toast!  You can get all the big names in the music business in the world to help, but it won’t sell the winning Idol’s records.  Hell, even a great producer can’t make that happen.  We’ll see in early 2011.

(UNOFFICIAL!) J-Lo Will Be An Idol Judge After All????…

Holy crap FOX!…This is getting a little old….and I mark this blog as “unofficial” because who knows if any of this is the truth…according to TMZ, a deal between Fox and Jennifer Lopez for Lopez to become a judge on American Idol is “imminent”…this after Lopez was said to be out of control with her diva demands and the network was tired of negoiating…well, all of that?…not true!…the network is said to be in “typical negoiations” with J-Lo…and the kicker?…the deal could be announced as early as next week!…right….and apparently another source is reporting a deal that would’ve brought Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler to the show as a judge has fallen through..again, all of this is unofficial…of course, Randy Jackson is definitely coming back, which was recently confirmed…I just happened to catch Ryan Seacrest and Paula Abdul chatting on the Emmy red carpet the other night…they were going to have lunch soon…LMAO!…Paula had to move on and that’s okay…I guess if an annnouncement about judges is going to be made, Seacrest will be all over it….ass!
Also on the judging front, the following lady is said to be in the running to be on the new US version of The X Factor, debuting next fall:
KATY PERRY!…She’s been one of the better audition judges Idol has ever had and now, she might be rewarded for it by Simon Cowell himself…once again, all of this is very unofficial…one source is even saying Perry will be paid $300,000 a week for her services…however, since Perry is hot right now, who knows what will transpire in a year’s time…
If and when this big American Idol judge announcement takes place, don’t worry, a blog will be written…HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND!

(Unofficially) J-Lo a No-Go!

I guess it’s a good thing Fox hasn’t made an official announcement concerning all the changes that are being made to American Idol, because one new judge, is already gone!…reports are breaking this afternoon that Jennifer Lopez will not be a judge this upcoming season due to her diva demands from the network…and Fox has reportedly already had enough…I’m not surprised, but I’m also curious as to why J-Lo would squander this incredible opportunity to put her name back on the map…Apparently she still thinks she’s big enough to be a diva and Fox has put her in her place…good for them!…As for the other rumored judge joining Randy Jackson, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, a story said his deal to become a judge is “a work in progress”…so, what names are still on the table?…one name that is not on the table is Paula Abdul…since she’s starting her new dance competition/mentoring show on CBS soon, she can’t break that contract to run back to Idol…which sucks, but I think her new show may have a shot at success…the Idol drama is turning out to be a galactic PR nightmare for Fox, who desperately needs to revamp their one-time cash cow…one definite person who is back on board is Nigel Lythgoe, beyond that?…anyone’s guess…

American Idol…the 180 Degrees Edition…

In just 24 hours time, Ellen DeGeneres quits Idol, then today, it’s reported Kara DioGuardi has been served her walking papers!…of course it’s also rumored that super Idol producer and So You Think You Can Dance judge, Nigel Lythgoe is coming back…Ellen didn’t help  Idol, and she’s been quoted as telling Fox that the show just “wasn’t the right fit” for her…not many people were oblivious to that statement…of course Idol didn’t fit Ellen!…she always said she didn’t like to hurt people’s feelings, but I’m not sure that’s the real reason she’s leaving…DeGeneres is starting her own record label, which doesn’t really make any sense, since most of her roster, I predict, will consist of Idol rejects…I hope Alex Lambert hasn’t signed a deal yet…I wouldn’t necessarily call Ellen’s stint as a judge a FAIL, but it wasn’t great…on the other hand…
I’m really glad to see Kara DioGuardi go!…again, it’s not that she was a bad judge, she just didn’t really captivate the audience in quite the way Paula did…she always came off as a little bit mean and clueless at the same time…however, she still has a good behind-the-scenes career ahead of her, so all is not lost…you never know, she may show up on TV again…and at the moment, she has reason to cheer, Carrie Underwood’s “Undo It”, which she helped write, just went to #1 on the Country charts…she’ll be all right…
Well as news broke DioGuardi got the axe, a new judge has already been hired:
Yes, Jennifer Lopez will be a judge in season 10…and why is Steven Tyler there?…he’s rumored to be the final piece of the judging puzzle…Randy Jackson’s contract ends after season 10, so as far as we know, he’s staying put…Supposedly, Fox also met with Elton John and Justin Timberlake…and they met a little while ago with someone who I’m still trying to figure out why…Chris Isaak…now, this is all good and fine, but I still think the talent is hurting the show, not the judges…many dates on current Idols Live tour were pulled due to poor ticket sales…and to be fair, we won’t know how the recent winner, Lee DeWyze, and runner-up, Crystal Bowersox, will succeed until each releases a full album later this year…I’m already very leery of how each will do, especially DeWyze…
In the end, it’s gonna take a miracle to revive American Idol…that’s it!

J-Lo…NO!…Making Fun Of "We Are The World" 2?…YES!…

Well, you may have seen an earlier blog about how I was very disappointed with the new version of “We Are The World”…with the Olympics winding down, SNL returned last night, and I was a little surprised they went after this subject first, since there was a boat load of material from this week’s Health Care Reform Summit…I confess, if a skit about the HCR Summit did air, I may have missed it, since I didn’t watch the entire show…and I still stick by my position on Jennifer Lopez no longer being valid…her musical performances were on par or below American Idol this past week…OUCH!
However, you’ll see J-Lo impersonating Rihanna and it’s funny…as is Jenny Slate as Lady GaGa…my only complaint, Jason Sudekis needs to work on his Glambert, as does Abby Elliott with Melissa Etheridge….LOL!…here it is:

GLEE continues to surprise and dominate….

Okay, I totally forgot about the SAG Awards, but I wasn’t worried about the McKinley High crew, they cannot lose…as you know or may not know, the SAG Awards are voted on by actors, not critics or old, fogey Academy members…GLEE took Best TV Comedy Series cast…some of the other main actors, like Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, and Jane Lynch have gotten nominations, but I’m not sure when they will win…Lynch should win a million times over…I keep thinking about the first time I saw the show; I was instantly hooked and I’m in excruciating pain thinking about waiting until April to see the second part of the first season…I read about the many guest stars who will appear: Idina Menzel starring as the coach of New Directions’ main competition, Vocal Adrenaline…Olivia Newton-John!!!…oh yes…perhaps J-Lo, though, nobody cares…
I’m so proud of these kids, er, actors!

Catch a Falling Diva: J-Lo?!?!

Jennifer Lopez

Yes, it’s true…Jennifer Lopez is not a huge star anymore…here’s how I know…I was at work yesterday and I had the TV on…I glanced at it and I saw J-Lo, she looked flawless as always, but I was puzzled, because it was some sort of commercial…I’m sure J-Lo was a spokesmodel for Cover Girl or some other cosmetic company at one time…this was a public service announcement for…pertussis, yes, Jennifer Lopez was speaking on behalf of those fighting whooping cough…

Oh my…why?…all I know is, if J-Lo doesn’t have a hit movie or hit song soon, her time will have passed…can you even name the last movie she was in?…her last hit record?…I was doing some research and I forgot how many high profile relationships she was in…Puffy, Ben Affleck, that dancer guy…and now she has found happiness and twins with Marc Anthony…

Now if she can just find her career…she’ll be in better shape…
