It’s Really Sad When…

American Idol, if only for one night, is NOT about this year’s finalists…Adam Lambert brought it bitches!…he was clever to rearrange his hit “Whataya Want From Me” for his return Idol performance and it was a little manic, but totally awesome…I’m really surprised there wasn’t a disclaimer before his elaborate Incredible Hulk meets Laser Floyd production:
And in case you missed it, two contestants who should’ve been voted off weeks ago, Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens, said their farewells…Garcia’s elimination came almost 15 minutes into the broadcast, yeah Idol still thinks they can change things up, but it’s really getting tired…of course the drama was amped up again when it was revealed Turban, Big Mike-HUH????, and Katie were in the bottom…well, the fake bottom, oh hell, I don’t want to explain it…in short, Big Mike was stuck up there again for no reason at all except to remind viewers he was saved for the umpteenth time…yes, he will be around for two more weeks, since Idol Gives Back is next week…and I think I’ll take a look at it, but I won’t be glued to the TV…I really loved the first Idol Gives Back, since then?…not wild about it…it just prolongs the stay of the sub-par talent still in the competition…and I’m hoping the finalists will sing their best, because in reality, folks won’t be tuning in to see them, they will tuning in to see the established stars…am I right?…as always, Bowersox all the way!!!!

Didi, Diddy, and The Clash of the Titans???…

Well, that picture isn’t as big as I would’ve liked, but what the hell, Didi Benami is now gone from American Idol…last night’s show was so bizarre, I mean what the hell with The Clash of the Titans plug/cross promotion at the beginning???…so weird…yes, the film is in theaters tomorrow…and I must confess, even though I’m a die-hard fan of the original, I want to see the new one, in 3-D damnit!
Now onto the results, Andrew Garcia definitely redeemed himself, although I still think he needs to kick it up just a few more notches to stick around…I guess the biggest sensation from Tuesday night was Lee Dewyze, who I totally omitted from last week’s diatribe, because by last week, he was forgettable…I still don’t think he can win, but he’s proven himself worthy of staying in the competition…Big Mike stays and what was going on with the fake ponytail thing?…he’s really getting on my nerves…Casey James continues to fly under the radar, however, I have a new candidate for flying under the radar and I can’t believe I ever would have thought this…Katie Stevens…why?…she is turning out less than par performances, but I actually think she’s ever so slightly improving…I had her gone weeks ago, even before the top 12, but now?…I don’t know…again, she can’t win, but I hope she enjoys the tour…well one contestant who faltered Tuesday night and almost landed in the bottom 3 for the first time…Siobhan Mangus?!?…bless her heart…her lower range was terrible and I think even I am tiring of her screaming out notes…she’s gotta get back on track next week…Aaron Kelly, he’s still around, but so boring…
Crystal Bowersox is still the only front-runner…and she’s changed up her game by playing piano and then getting up from the piano and walking, only a foot, in high heels…wow!…next week’s theme is the Lennon-McCartney songbook and you know she’s gonna rip it up!…and I predict, the guitar will be back…oh yeah….
Bottom 3 last night, Katie Stevens, though she was sent back to the couch quite quickly, Tim Urban–zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!…and Didi Benami, who probably was a front-runner at one time, but she was awful this week and she paid the price…no save for Benami either, though I was a little scared the judges might keep her around…she didn’t seem too upset when she was informed she wouldn’t be saved…eh, she still gets the tour…
The most bizarre moment of the night was when Diddy Dirty Money performed…am I missing something???…did he change his name again?!?…if you noticed right before his performance, a caption came up that said “strobe lighting will be used in the next performance”…WTF?!?…So is American Idol turning into the next Mary Hart?….the next Japnanese anime?…oh boy, how invalid can they get?….
Okay, I hope I didn’t leave anyone out, next week: Lennon-McCartney….peace!

No Save For You!

Oh yes!…America’s first vote for who goes home in the coveted top 12 goes to Lacey Brown…America?…I may just forgive you…my good fortunes were almost swept away when I remembered that the judges could have saved her…yes, the dreaded “judges’ save” that can only be used ONCE all season up until the final four…my heart sank for about 20 minutes when I realized Lacey could be saved…however, in the first week, this usually doesn’t happen…it all depends on who gets the boot, and then that person has to lipsynch for his or her life…OOOPS…I mean sing one last time to convince the judges he or she still deserves to be there…sorry Lacey, but she NEVER deserved to be there…however, I was a bit baffled by America’s choices for the bottom 3: Lacey, Paige Miles, and Tim Urban…Urban was sent right back to the couch by Seacrest…and Urban is damn lucky, because he doesn’t show any promise whatsoever…Paige Miles will be that “fly under the radar” singer this year I guess…she was okay the other night, but I still don’t see why she’s still there…and yes, Katie Stevens is still around, as is Aaron Kelly…you have to wonder what criteria the nation votes on…is it who they like or is it who is the better singer/performer?….At this blog time, it is not known what next week’s theme is…it doesn’t matter, the weak ones will be cast off one by one just like the weaker teams in the upcoming NCAA tournament..
How’s that for an analogy?

Dear American Idol…namely the AMERICA part…

Oh dear, where to start?…if you look closely at the photo above…that’s your two finalists…yep…and now that the top 12 have been revealed, it will be a billion times easier for Big Mike Lynche and Crystal Bowersox to make it to May, unscathed…I was out of town all day and all last night, so I didn’t see the big reveal live, and boy am I glad I didn’t…naturally I fast forwarded through all of Seacrest’s and the judges’ kiss-ass material…I just realized, this will be the first season I will have the capability of using my DVR…OMG!…it will be awesome on elimination nights…
All right, so the top 12 is not great at all…granted, there are some dark horses in there, like Siobhan Mangus and Andrew Garcia…Garcia…my man, he has GOT to do something different when the real competition starts next week…his acoustic versions of pop songs????…not going to work from this point forward unless a theme calls for it, but for now, he’s got to drop that strategy…I’m very disappointed Todrick Hall won’t be there to entertain us…I was beginning to get an Adam Lambert performance vibe from him after his too little/too late rendition of Queen’s “Somebody to Love” this week…I guess the biggest shock on the men’s side was when Aaron Kelly made it in and Alex Lambert didn’t…I was NOT a fan of either guy, especially Lambert…never let that last name deceive you!…stiff, boring, lackluster…I could go on…we get an Aaron Kelly just about every season, so I’m not surprised he’s in…as predicted, the top 6 girls were shocking…
The first elimination came down to Katelyn Epperly or Paige Miles making it in…I was not worried, as I was confident Epperly could bounce back from her Carole King debacle Tuesday night…Paige was terrible with her sad, weak rendition of “Smile”, so pitiful, but guess what?…Paige gets in?!?…yeah, and the head-scratching didn’t stop there…Lacey Brown makes it in, no questions asked, except for the panel still not knowing what kind of artist she is….I guess my biggest question was why was Crystal so sad????…she’s a winner!…good God, loosen up!…my theory on why Katie Stevens makes it in and Lilly Scott doesn’t is because of Didi Benami…they were too similar and in the end, Benami was more safe and not too quirky…so unless Paige can majorly step her game, we are without a diva-in-the-making this year…Bowersox doesn’t count…she’s in a league beyond diva…
So the competition kicks off with the songs of The Rolling Stones…wow!

American Idol..Fight or Flight?

Well, I was not satisfied with most of the first cuts last night on Idol…I’m still not caring much about the guys…Tyler Grady was supposedly a surprise, but not to me…he was a one-trick pony with his 70’s crap and I hope he has a good life…Joe Munoz, again, not surprised, he had as much personality as a gnat and he had no star quality…that’s a keyword this season…STAR…and so far, there are no real stars…
On the ladies’ cuts…I was mortified to learn both Katie Stevens and Lacey Brown (who I learned has ties to Owensboro KY) survived week one…HOW???…Janell Wheeler being cut was the biggest surprise to me…she was good looking and she had a decent voice, enough to get her past week one…as for Ashley Rodiguez, she turned out to be the biggest disappointment of week one…here’s what I don’t understand, they coined her as a possible “diva” this season…huh?!?…is it just because she took on Leona Lewis’ “Happy”?…I’m sorry, but I didn’t see a diva at all, I saw someone, who in the beginning, could sing, but couldn’t handle the live show…
Thus I’m left to ponder my continuing support for this show…I already know it’s going to be a rough one..and with Simon leaving at the end of the season, I predict the show will not last beyond, maybe, one more season…the talent this year is very scarce, mostly because we’ve all seen the same type of singers muddle through the competition…yes, Crystal Bowersox (did she not look so out of place in the group song last night???) is fresh and is original, but how long will she last?…if the mindset of America has changed in terms of just choosing a bonafide pop star, then she has a great chance of going far…and I really want a girl to win this season, but someone, besides Bowersox, has to make it more competitive…and again, so far, I’m over the guys…boring!
Even Ellen will have a tough time, but I still love her!

American Idol Top 12 Ladies: A Crap Shoot!

Okay, so crap shoot is not the best way to describe last night, but come on!…the ladies need to pick it up, however, the top 12 this year will be comprised of 6 guys and 6 girls…so far?…I don’t see 6 strong girls…in fact, I see only 2, maybe 3…song choices last night were not too good…the worst?…Lacey Brown with the Dixie Chicks’ version of “Landslide”…so bad, so boring…and this is a girl who almost made the top 24 last year…instead, fruitcake Megan Joy made it, and we all know how that turned out…OMG!…I see that burden as a curse…I predict she’s definitely in the bottom Thursday…who else will be in the bottom?…for sure, Katie Stevens, who was so timid and so old sounding on Michael Buble’s “Feeling Good”…she has no star quality or power to her voice…I hate to say this but either Haeley Vaughn or Janell Wheeler may be visiting the bottom for the first time tomorrow night…Vaughn was just annoying and obnoxious in her rendition of The Beatles, “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”…Simon pointed out she is not defining herself as she did when she walked in to audition for Hollywood…she originally intended to go country, but she’s already lost her way…I’m not a fan of Janell Wheeler’s voice…granted, all of the ladies last night were nervous in their first live show, but Wheeler just couldn’t work completely through “What About Love”…she annoys the hell out of me too…
Okay, I move on to who impressed me…first, I disagree with the panel on Paige Miles, she’s okay…Simon deemed her “..the best singer in the competition…”, not sure about that…but I see a lot of potential in her and Ashley Rodriguez…I was also impressed with someone I didn’t expect to be…Katelyn Epperly really made The Beatles’ “Oh Darlin'” her own, but her lipstick blinded me!…Lilly Scott and Didi Benami are this year’s Megan Joys, but they are a billion times better…they just have to find their niche’…Siobhan Magnus was okay, I wasn’t expecting her to impress…she has that musical theater quality and it will not pull her through every week….
And in the end, I still think Crystal Bowersox is the best lady in the competition…yes, she’s a coffeehouse performer and she really doesn’t belong on Idol, but she’s fresh and she will stand out…I just hope we don’t see her guitar and her harmonica every single week…
Props to Ellen on her first live show!…I just hope she doesn’t become emotional when the cuts begin…
