Pooping Yourself Equals OSCAR????

Indeed Bridesmaids might! I knew it was Oscar nominations day and the noms were pretty much the norm: Meryl Streep captured her record 17th Best Actress nomination for The Iron Lady (haven’t seen it yet), Martin Scorsese’s HUGO scored the most nods with eleven including Best Picture, Best Actor will pit Pitt against Clooney, and that silent movie The Artist is destined for a Best Picture win, thanks Uggie!
But when I scanned the nominations further, first I landed on this gal nabbing a Best Supporting Actress nod:
Hells yes for Melissa McCarthy! Did I mention I used to date a girl who looks exactly like McCarthy’s character Megan??? I would provide photographic proof, alas, like the girlfriend, they are both gone. I’m pumped for McCarthy! Of course, she’ll have tough competition with Golden Globe winner Octavia Spencer for The Help (4 nominations, including a second Best Supporting nod for Jessica Chastain’s role, a Best Actress nod for Viola Davis, and Best Picture), and I also did not see The Help. I’m confident in saying I did see Best Actress nominee Rooney Mara in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, well-earned but either Streep or Davis OR Glenn Close, who has been nominated six time but hasn’t won, will more than likely take the Oscar.
Bridesmaids probably deserved a least a Best Actress nod for Kristen Wiig, maybe even a nod for Best Picture, but never fear, Wiig and her co-writer Annie Mumolo have been nominated for Best Original Screenplay:
(yes, that’s the real Annie on the right!)
It’s about time the Academy should see past the blockbusting box office numbers, which Bridesmaids had, and they should take a look at the talent that has made it one of the funniest movies of all time. There’s been talk of a sequel, but it may not make it off the ground, which is a good thing because most sequels to giant films always suck. These ladies should bask in their Oscar nomination glory and GO GET ‘EM!

When In Doubt (Or Bored), Robyn It Is!

I know I harp a lot on how bad Saturday Night Live has become. Okay, it has its bright spots–I still heart Kristen Wiig, but it just isn’t the same. That said, sometimes the behind-the-scenes footage can be a gold mine. Case in point, second year featured cast member Taran Killam, along with a few other cast members/writers were burning the midnight oil in anticipation of this past Saturday’s show starring Katy Perry (as host!) and Europop goddess Robyn as musical guest. I just want to once again point out the only part worth investing time lately in is when the musical guests are on, because in the past, if there had been DVR, I would’ve wasted no time in fast-fowarding through the music segments. Anyways, Taran and the others decided they were so bored or so in procrastination hell, they decided to act out Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” video. All I can say, this is classic and I hope we see a few more unseen moments like these come to life. Taran Killam, you are good people.

Well, as usual, SNL was not very funny this weekend thanks to stiff host and MAD MEN star, January Jones…however, Kristen Wiig shined the brightest, although these days, even I’ll admit, I get a little annoyed when she’s in too many skits…that wasn’t the case this past Saturday…not too much, just enough…the skit called “Around the Town” is vintage Wiig…she plays a reporter who is a little too open about her feelings for Jones’ DQ worker-turned-hero…observe above!

and Happy Monday!

Tea for Three?

JFK dead Grey Gardens

Well, the Emmy nominations dropped yesterday…and I’m very pleased!…first, congrats to Tina Fey and the team at 30 ROCK for scoring 22 nods!!!…the sitcom is up for Best Comedy Series, obviously…Fey for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Alec Baldwin for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and Tracy Morgan, Jack McBrayer, and Jane Krakowski all scored supporting nominations…what a brilliantly, funny show…

HBO’s GREY GARDENS scored 17 nominations with leads Jessica Lange-Big Edie and Drew Barrymore–Little Edie receiving Lead Actress nods…I misread the list at first yesterday and I didn’t see Barrymore’s name…Ken Howard as Big Edie’s husband and Jeanne Tripplehorn’s Jackie O. got supporting nominations…and of course, the movie itself is nominated for Best Mini-Series, Made for TV Movie…if Jessica Lange doesn’t win, it will be heartbreaking…GREY GARDENS is out on DVD now, rent it today!…

Guess who else got a nomination?

Kristen Wiig

KRISTEN WIIG!!!!…in the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE…Wiig will face former SNL castmate Amy Poehler…damn, tough choice, but Wiig is a comic genius…she is the ONLY reason I keep tuning in to SNL every week…just watch…
