Honey I’m Home!

So, we say goodbye to the female Adam Lambert…hey, in the end, she was NO Adam Lambert…she got worse instead of getting better…she became manic and she talked way too long to the judges…and do you think Kara would really hang out with her??…who knows…
I had extremely high hopes for glassblower Siobhan Mangus…she brought that quirky vibe to the show although in the end, she out-quirked her talent…it’s all proof America would still like their pop stars without funny hair and elaborate costumes…but wait…doesn’t Mama Sox fit that bill?…well, maybe not the elaborate costume part…and folks, Crystal is the only female left in the competition…she will have to outlast 2 mediocre singers (Aaron Kelly and Casey James), 1 ego-maniac (Big Mike), and the guy who can be energizing, but still very boring with no originality (Lee Dewyze)…
I mean next week is the songs of Frank Sinatra with Harry Connick, Jr. as mentor…what can Casey and Lee do with Sinatra????…I can tell you what Mike and Aaron can do, boring-flatline ballads…it will be interesting to see what Crystal does…she definitely needs to bring back the power in her voice, let’s face it, this week was not good…and there were fears she might visit the bottom 3…she didn’t seem to sing out at all…she was probably intimidated by the arrangement, which I was not a fan of…I fear she may be losing just a little bit of steam…which may land her in second place when all is said and done…however, finishing second on Idol is not a bad thing…GLAMBERT!..hello!…speaking of Lambert, he tweeted out last night that “Whataya Want From Me” has now gone platinum in the US…not bad for a runner-up…

Joss Gives Back!..and there’s more!

Yes, Joss Stone and Jeff Beck WERE the Idol Gives Back show…yes, yes, I loved Annie Lennox…I’m just bummed that damn volcano ash kept her from being on live…I did not see the Black Eyed Peas, but I heard good things and bad things…they are the group of the moment, so it was fitting to have them open the show…I guess I shouldn’t say “of the moment” but I digres…this week’s mentor, Alicia Keys, sounded a little rough, but she rocks, damn, I love to hear her talk, she’s so smoove…okay, I loved-loved-loved Joss Stone and Jeff Beck’s performance of “I Put a Spell on You”…oh yeah…that was true artistry right there folks!…if say, Crystal and Siobhan want to look at possibly what their future careers can be, Stone provided an excellent example…Elton John was great, Carrie Underwood was okay, the Mary J. Blige all-star group was good, but didn’t totally rock me…I think the whole fake phonebank joke segment with Russell Brand and Jonah Hill was okay…I mean Slash!…hello?!?…Wanda Sykes was the funniest of the night…her joke about telling Big Mike to go home was hilarious…season 7 winner David Cook appeared but did not perform, boo to the producers on a missed opportunity…Seacrest was Seacrest…I really hope he goes along with Simon at the end of the season, he’s exhausting to watch anymore…
If you think Gleeks were upset Wednesday night…Idoloonies may be upset about last night..the broadcast ran oh, 20-25 minutes long…but I’m sure by now, you know Tim Urban or “Turban” finally bit the dust on his Idol run…he was cheesy, but he had gotten a lot better in the past few weeks…in fact, I participated in the LA Times’ Idol Tracker chat yesterday and promininent critic Ann Powers said she feared Tim might WIN?!?!?…I guess she’s eating her words today…and of course, leave it up to the producers to force the “Big Mike in the bottom 3” issue yet again…I’m tired of it, really tired of it…Casey James was sent to safety, leaving Big Mike and Tim waiting….there’s just too much drama in the elinination episodes this year…at this point, with the exception of Crystal, who the hell has a chance of winning????…I know I’m not the only one who feels this way…I’m losing faith in Siobhan, although I’m still confident she can pick it back up…however, next week, Shania Twain will be the mentor and the Idols will choose from HER library…yes, it’s mostly country, but Twain cashed in on the whole country-pop crossover niche way before Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood…but I have no idea who this niche will favor out of the 6 contestants remaining…man, it sucks Katie Stevens couldn’t stick around long enough for Shania week, since the judges tried to force her into a country direction…oh well…
So here’s what we’ve learned…always set your DVRs to record at least 20 minutes longer than scheduled, the Idols are STILL lipsynching the group numbers, and I’m over this season…just kidding on that last one, but really…

Didi, Diddy, and The Clash of the Titans???…

Well, that picture isn’t as big as I would’ve liked, but what the hell, Didi Benami is now gone from American Idol…last night’s show was so bizarre, I mean what the hell with The Clash of the Titans plug/cross promotion at the beginning???…so weird…yes, the film is in theaters tomorrow…and I must confess, even though I’m a die-hard fan of the original, I want to see the new one, in 3-D damnit!
Now onto the results, Andrew Garcia definitely redeemed himself, although I still think he needs to kick it up just a few more notches to stick around…I guess the biggest sensation from Tuesday night was Lee Dewyze, who I totally omitted from last week’s diatribe, because by last week, he was forgettable…I still don’t think he can win, but he’s proven himself worthy of staying in the competition…Big Mike stays and what was going on with the fake ponytail thing?…he’s really getting on my nerves…Casey James continues to fly under the radar, however, I have a new candidate for flying under the radar and I can’t believe I ever would have thought this…Katie Stevens…why?…she is turning out less than par performances, but I actually think she’s ever so slightly improving…I had her gone weeks ago, even before the top 12, but now?…I don’t know…again, she can’t win, but I hope she enjoys the tour…well one contestant who faltered Tuesday night and almost landed in the bottom 3 for the first time…Siobhan Mangus?!?…bless her heart…her lower range was terrible and I think even I am tiring of her screaming out notes…she’s gotta get back on track next week…Aaron Kelly, he’s still around, but so boring…
Crystal Bowersox is still the only front-runner…and she’s changed up her game by playing piano and then getting up from the piano and walking, only a foot, in high heels…wow!…next week’s theme is the Lennon-McCartney songbook and you know she’s gonna rip it up!…and I predict, the guitar will be back…oh yeah….
Bottom 3 last night, Katie Stevens, though she was sent back to the couch quite quickly, Tim Urban–zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!…and Didi Benami, who probably was a front-runner at one time, but she was awful this week and she paid the price…no save for Benami either, though I was a little scared the judges might keep her around…she didn’t seem too upset when she was informed she wouldn’t be saved…eh, she still gets the tour…
The most bizarre moment of the night was when Diddy Dirty Money performed…am I missing something???…did he change his name again?!?…if you noticed right before his performance, a caption came up that said “strobe lighting will be used in the next performance”…WTF?!?…So is American Idol turning into the next Mary Hart?….the next Japnanese anime?…oh boy, how invalid can they get?….
Okay, I hope I didn’t leave anyone out, next week: Lennon-McCartney….peace!

I Know This is Late, But…

I have my reasons for delaying my American Idol results thoughts…I mean yes, we all knew Paige Miles was outta there!…I never could understand why she stuck around, flying under the radar, in the first place…sure, she can blame laryngitis, but for God’s sake, SING LIKE YOU WANT TO WIN!!!…I know understand why Simon made the unanimous decision to NOT let Miles sing for the coveted save…she didn’t want it bad enough and she had the worst logic in trying to explain why she was sooooooooooooo bad…in the end, I’m just baffled by this season so far and I know I’m not alone…the judges always brag that “this is the most talented group we’ve ever had”…they say it every season…I’m not too sure they had said it outright this time around, because the talent is hugely lacking…I even have my suspicions now Big Mike Lynche may not be in the final two…he’s not been too memorable, at least to me, these last two weeks…he could be elimated out of the blue, ala Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Melinda Doolittle, etc. etc….
You really have to wonder: who does want to win?…Crystal Bowersox could release a cd right now and it would sell extremely well…I’m not sure she needs American Idol to prove that, alas, she will be seen by millions of record buyers and label moguls every week, so it can’t hurt…the only other frontrunner right now is quirky Siobhan Mangus…who has her own fans…the “Siobhanmbies”…as in zombies…I love that!…the comparisons to Adam Lambert are silly, there’s only one…don’t forget it!…the comparison is only being made because, in realty, Mangus probably can’t win…I can’t even begin to think how you would market her…she’s not a conventional pop singer…but neither is Bowersox…Mangus could maybe corner the market on a Liz Phair-Lisa Loeb type of artist…or an Alanis Morissette???…God, I miss her!…now to the rest of litter…and I mean litter…Andrew Garcia is the biggest enigma remaining…why is he still there????…I have an inkling he could wow American again, but brother has to do it pronto! starting next week…Aaron Kelly is still there for the pre-pubescent crowd who fell in love with David Archuleta or God help me, Sanjaya Malakar in the past…Didi Benami is another one who just hasn’t proven to me she has the goods to win…she’s been out-quirked by Mangus, so sorry, thanks for playing…then you have bottom 3 regulars, Tim Urban and Katie Stevens…they are both so not ready for American Idol….Urban is huge clown who is trying desperately to milk his hunky-cute factor for all its worth….so stupid…Katie just doesn’t have the contemporary sensibility to make it much further, I mean how soulful (next week’s theme) can she really be?…UGH!…I almost forgot to throw a bone to the other hunky, pretty boy in the competition, Casey James…with Paige gone, he’s your new “fly under the radar” contestant, I guarantee it…
So there you go, I promise to not elaborate this much every week, but I had to vent and I leave you with a picture that came up when I searched image results for “Paige Miles”:
WTF????

American Idol: A Little Better Call on the Departed…

So, here we are, week two of Idol is over and Cystal Bowersox is still around, and that’s a good thing!…the drama of her medical issues and her subsequent hospitalization made fans cry foul over fears Crystal getting a free pass because she is one of the obvious favorites…some fans thought why not show her rehearsal footage or a clip from week one?…I can tell you now, she still would’ve made it through…maybe it is sympathy, but she doesn’t want that….she is the most talented in the competition…however, I’m beginning to like a few of her female competitors…namely Katelyn Epperly, she was sort of boring and safe with her piano performance of Coldplay’s “The Scientist”, but I see her as someone who could really turn the competition around…she’s a dark horse for sure…my other dark horse? Siobhan Mangus…I know she’s really a geek a heart who, under normal circumstances, would have never chosen to compete on a show like American Idol…she has a lot of power in her voice and she is a performer…I’m afraid Lilly Scott and Didi Benami, who almost went home last night, will wear on America over time, maybe sooner…my two who I thought were gone last week, Katie Stevens and Lacey Brown, they improved, but they still don’t have a shot to win…so America said goodbye to Michelle Delamor and teeny-bopper Haeley Vaughn…I thought Delamor had more talent, but then I heard her version of Creed’s “With Arms Wide Open”…yikes!…oh well….I confess, I was a little excited about Haeley Vaughn after her initial audition…since then, her performances and her voice have been all over the place…”The Climb” was her kiss of death…well, it’s the kiss of death in general…
Again, I’m not a fan of any of the guys except for maybe, Michael Lynche…and it’s only because he has a personality…Tim Urban and Alex Lambert live to see another week, they improved, but again, slightly…Todrick Hall is in trouble if he doesn’t choose better songs and he has to stick to the main melody…Andrew Garcia continues to be an extreme disappointment as he was close to going home last night…Jermaine Sellers and John Park go home, and I would say that’s the best call at this point…no pizzazz!..they both sufferered from almost zero camera time after their initial auditions…but really?…we didn’t miss anything…
