Okay X Factor, We’re Not Stupid!: A Commentary

I only saw a little bit of this week’s show and I totally missed the results show, however, when I did the math this afternoon, the finals are almost guaranteed to be Simon vs. L.A.  And that’s exactly what the two judges/mentors/record exes–and producers– wanted.  We all know Paula Abdul’s “groups” didn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of making the finals, so Lakoda Rayne had to go.  Frankly, I give Nicole Scherzinger credit, Josh Krajcik has the best chance of schooling the big guys’ stars in the competition (sorry LeRoy Bell, you were too milquetoast) and unless one of Simon’s or LA’s frontrunners stumble (We’re all looking at you ASTRO!) Krajcik is next in line to go.  It makes me wonder how accurate the voting is.  Sure, America trusts Cowell, and it’s no surprise all three of his “girls” are still in the running to win. If one of them DOESN’T win, it will certainly be a shock.  And I don’t see Marcus Canty or Chris Rene winning, so Astro, despite the attitude/headphone controversy is all LA’s got and I think he knows it.  Astro could be the next Justin Bieber, whom Reid mentored and signed.
As far the other contestants, and I include all three of Simon’s, I don’t see a “next” somebody.  It’s safe to say Rachel Crow will go on to an acting career with or without a $5 million dollar contract, Drew? I don’t know, and Melanie Amaro is still my favorite and she could be the next I’m not sure.  I still see Amaro as very tenative, not diva-like at all.  LA has a challenge in Canty and Rene; both are good, but they are not good enough to win, so does Reid really care? No.  I hope Cowell doesn’t suffer the American Idol curse when the winner goes nowhere. Remember Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, the 2 finalists in Cowell’s last year on Idol? DeWyze was dropped from his label and Bowersox quit to go back the “independent” way of doing things.  I bet they wish they were Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina right about now.  Josh Krajcik is about to be set up for a harsh reality, starting a career over 30 is not the best scenario.  Don’t even make me pull the Susan Boyle card!  UGH!  That’s not a career, that’s a passing fad and if she still succeeds in England, great.  It’s just very difficult for anyone, any age to break into the music business in the 21st century.  I would love to see just once, a singer or a band get signed the way all artists used to be signed, through hard work and dedication and a little creativity.  Lady Gaga is the best example of an artist who paid her dues and she is now one of the biggest pop stars in the world, maybe, of all time. Okay, I won’t go nuts, but there’s my point.  A person can be discovered and be mentored, but is it worth $5 million bucks?

GaGa Lays It Down, Literally.

Lady GaGa and her egg walked away with 3 Grammys last night, including, for Best Pop Vocal Album: THE FAME MONSTER–in your face Susan Boyle!!!  Now I didn’t see this live; I confess I’m a huge fan of Big Love which is in its final season on HBO; don’t worry, I have the Grammys DVR’ed, so I’ll be able to see Cee-Lo and Gwyneth and the faux-Muppets in due time.  I would re-post GaGa’s “Born This Way” performance, however, I can’t find a good copy of it, and two, it wasn’t quite the earth-shattering performance the heartland or I was expecting.  Oh, and three, I’m surprised she was on so early, so I didn’t miss it.  But I did miss her acceptance speech for her only televised award:
Yes, the censors were soooooo worried about Cee-Lo and Eminem, they forgot about possibly hitting the delay button during acceptance speeches!  Oh well, she rules, and as of this writing, I haven’t seen a story about that little expletive slipping by.  You know how CBS is about the FCC–in their faces too!!!!  By the way, only 10 Grammys were given away during the 3 and half hour live show which is totally weak.  GaGa also won for Best Pop Female Vocal Performance and Best Short Form Music Video, both for “Bad Romance”.  And somehow, Whitney Houston has been dragged into the conversation; GaGa says the pop diva was her inspiration for “Born This Way”, so Madonna will be on the bench, if only for a little while.

The Dreaded GLEE hiatus and Glambert back on ABC?!?…

All right, we’ve all know, for about two weeks, that GLEE is taking a major hiatus after tonight’s “Fall Finale”…it’s all to make way for FOX’s original musical machine American Idol and I’m excited, but sad…I’m hoping FOX doesn’t take GLEE away completely, although I haven’t heard what the status is on reruns…they are very smart if they take it away altogether until April…addicts will have pumped so much money into ITunes, the economy will bounce back with flying colors!!!…tonight’s episode, of course, is all about Sectionals…how long have they been building up to the damn Sectionals episode?…oh yeah, since MAY!…I will be bummed, but one number will comfort me in these trying times:

Now to Glambert!…I know I haven’t blogged about him in two weeks?!?…I had to detox a bit…I’m still in love with For Your Entertainment…the Billboard album charts have Lambert debuting at #3…and yes, Susan Boyle topped the chart and she might for an extended period of time…AAARGH!…I will never understand how so many people are fascinated by a person who, I still predict, is a flash in the pan!…I mean, who in the world has her cd?????…you need to identify yourself stat!!!…if I had a billion, gagillion dollars, I wouldn’t buy it….anyway, back Glambert…the rumors are true…he’s back on ABC tonight AND tomorrow morning…yes, the same ABC that recently canceled two late night Lambert performances, one on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the other? New Year’s Rockin’ Eve….so where is he at?….tonight, Adam is one of Barbara Walters “10 Most Fascinating People of 2009″….yes, and so is Lady GaGa…I’m not kidding….it airs 10/9C…which is the same time I’ll be watching the Top Chef finale…DVR!!!!…then tomorrow morning, Lambert will make a TAPED appearance on The View, Walters’ other vehicle…I’m guessing she had some pull in bringing back the Glambert…who knows?…

I’ll be watching!…

Support Is Always A Good Thing…

Adam Lambert?…meet one of your biggest supporters, pop icon Boy George…when Lambert’s controversial AMA performance got to George, he immediately went to his Twitter (@theboygeorge) and rallied for Adam…saying things like, “A big snog on the mouth is theatrical not sensual, let’s educate them pleeeese!” and “Dick Clark had it allegedly removed and I guess his sense of humor and proportion.”
Granted, times have changed since Culture Club ruled the charts and really, no one was paying that much attention to whether George was gay or not…what they didn’t know was George was carrying on a secret affair with Culture Club drummer, Jon Moss…and many of the group’s biggest hits paid homage to the relationship…SCANDALOUS!…I think what Adam needs to remember is, no matter what year it is, his sexuality will always be a hot topic and even I have to admit, his racy performance had me doubting if he would ever be taken seriously or if anyone would buy his cd…early sales projections have Glambert selling about 225,000 copies of For Your Entertainment…which is very good…however, Lambert and Lady GaGa will more than likely be outsold by flash in pan British singing sensation, Susan Boyle…I even read Simon Cowell wants to make a biopic of Boyle’s life…really? Simon..really?…I’ve yet to read how Cowell reacted to Adam’s AMA performance…if I had to guess, he would be pleased, it’s all going to make him more money…
As for the cd, it’s really good…music bloggers are all screaming “Whataya Want From Me” should’ve been the first single, and they’re right…it’s a killer song and it’s very poppy…I’m not really a fan of the slower songs on the record…with the exception of “Time for Miracles”…my advice to Glambert would be, keep doing what you’re doing, because you’re good at it…don’t let those pesky double standards get you down…and never compromise your artistic integrity!…
It WILL pay off!
Have a great weekend everyone!
