These People Again?…Wait, Only One I Know.

Oh boy; could this be happening again?  Yes! It is.  As you can see, the only “real” lesbian returning from season 1 of The Real L Word is Whitney, well, if you count Romi, which I’m sure Whitney does (do the words strap-on ring a bell?)  She is now a regular for season 2.  I thought female Don Juan, Rose would be back, but it’s not to be.  Although I never recall seeing their wedding they spent all of season 1 planning, Nikki & Jill won’t be back.  Neither will Tracey, the one who struggled to come out to her family and she dated stand-up comedienne Stamie.
We’ll meet 5 new ladies in season 2, including another couple, Kaci and Cory, who have been married for five years and now they want to start a family.  Claire and her -ex Francine join the mix; Claire is staring an online lesbian magazine while Francine will be the one this season who is struggling to come out to her “traditional Japanese mother”  OY!  We all remember Romi, yeah, okay, and she is now sporting her own girlfriend, Kelsey, which with how flirty Romi can be, this relationship will probably be in trouble.  Last but not least joining the mix is LGBT activist, Sajdah, who was once her high school prom queen and is now “butch”, how sweet!
The video teaser is up at The Real L Word Season 2 Teaser
Season premiere: June 5th at 9pm-Central-on Showtime…I’ll give it a go…

Re-Thinking My Summer Watchin’ TV List…

I guess you could say we’re about halfway through the Summer TV season…and I haven’t quite as faithful as I hoped I would be….It’s not that the shows I recommended are bad, I just get really bored fast…for example, I know Hot in Cleveland has received rave reviews and it has been picked up for a full season next year, but frankly, I’m over it already…Don’t get me wrong, Betty White is great and she gets all the good jokes, but her supporting cast just isn’t doing it for me…I mean Wendie Malick is basically playing the exact same character she played on Just Shoot Me, Jane Leeves is a little more naughty than she was on Fraiser, and Valerie Bertinelli plays the sweet, apologetic one…not the most compelling formula…I may give it another try…
One of my picks I’m really disappointed in this season… is Obsessed…I’m really bored with it…I mean, how many different compulsions can one show explore?…many of them are starting to blur together…germaphobes, overprotective mothers, some guy afraid of El Caminos, etc….I don’t see it going past two or three seasons…I also had The Green Room with Paul Provenza on my list and it’s actually sort of good, however, I always forget when it comes on and some of the comedians, again, are boring and tired….I think it would help if the show was live…
I’m still in love with True Blood, Top Chef, Work of Art, and yes, I’ve been sticking with The Real L Word….how?…I’ll never know…
I’m excited to share a new find my mother and I discovered last weekend….TLC aired back-to-back episodes of a great reality show, The Fabulous Beekman Boys…here they are:
We were instantly captivated!!!…the premise?  two gay city boys move to upstate NY, renovate the Beekman house, they have 80 goats, chickens, two pigs, turkeys, and they live off those animals and the organic fare….author Josh Kilmer-Purcell and his partner, Dr. Brent Ridge struggle with life on the farm, but they are learning something new everyday…oh, I omitted their llama, Polka Dot…Purcell’s most recent memoir, The Bucolic Plague,  is all about the boys’ continuing experiment…Dr. Brent previously worked with Martha Stewart, not a shock, and he is adorable…his accent is unmistakably Southern, he’s from North Carolina…of course the show is wonderful (PLANET GREEN, Wednesdays 9p E/8pC), but if you want to see what the boys are up to, head over to http://www.beekman1802.com/ And naturally, you can follow them and Polka Dot on Facebook and Twitter….FABULOUS!

The Real L Word: I Don’t Know What To Say…

Honestly, I don’t know what to say…no, I wasn’t expecting a real-life L Word, but I think the producers, one of which is L Word co-creator Ilene Chaiken, is trying to make the ladies like the characters we all once loved, then hated…and I’m not happy with the concept…well, your obvious “Shane” is Whitney…someone who can’t settle down, yet she flirts and she eventually has sex with Sara pronounced Sada, a friend visiting from San Francisco…we see her run into a recent hook-up at a bar while she’s trying to focus on Sara or whomever she fancies…she also introduces the lay viewers to the term “Pumps or Pants”…Pumps=Femme, Pants=Butch…I don’t think I needed that explained…and Whitney also said LA lesbians are “more polished”…WTF???…yeah, so I basically suck!…is that what she/they’re trying to tell me…we see Whitney interact with another cast member, Tracy, the film executive..sound familiar Tina fans???…at a bar…now, we are led to believe these 6 cast members don’t know each other at all…I’m not buying it…Tracy, to me so far, is the most likeable…she’s sort of a newbie, came out at 26, which is the same age I did…she’s in a new relationship with a woman who has 3 little kids…WHOA!…twins, who are biologically the girlfriend’s and one, who is biologically the ex’s…so LA…
If you are looking for a Bette and Tina, you’ll find it Nikki and Jill, who are planning to get married after a year together…you’ll recognize Nikki from one of Oprah’s “Lesbians Later in Life” episodes…she obviously broke up with the poor girl she shared the stage with on the talk show…and she’s moved on to Jill, who she went to summer camp with 20 years ago…it kind of makes your head hurt after a while, and so does seeing the ladies dressing alike and giving each other pedicures…they have matching Mac laptops they stare at for wedding attire ideas…Nikki wants a suit, Jill wants a dres…Pumps and Pants, remember???…although I don’t see Nikki as butch at all…we see them meet with a wedding planner who quotes them a rather costly price for her services…again, it’s LA…they are the most annoying…
We meet LA Fashion Week guru-wannabe and definitely Pants girl Mikey early on…she’s not a Shane, in fact, she’s in a committed relationship with make-up artist Raquel, who is femme…Mikey is very butch, but she has a soft side…awwwwwwwww…but when it comes to casting models, don’t mess with her!…and all that strap-on talk in the press for the show, not Mikey ladies!…
Rounding out this lesbian circus is Rose, who Papi on The L Word was loosely based on, yeah right…she used to be a Shane, but now she has a live-in girlfriend, Natalie who she seems to treat not very well…well, they get along and Natalie knows how Rose is, but she doesn’t think Rose will cheat…I don’t buy that either…there’s even a scene where the couple is hanging out with Rose’s family and Natalie brings up the issue of having kids…if she wants to play that card, play away…I don’t think it’s going to work…you see a lot of upcoming footage of Natalie crying in the couple’s bed at home…yes, the upcoming footage, well if you did see the end of last night’s premiere, you saw Whitney drop off Sara at the airport, roll back around to pick up lane and pick up another girl…shocker!…we’re shown Whitney is balancing at least 3 girlfriends, if not more this season…AND we see Whitney break out the strap-on and she uses it!…and yes!, they show it…I guess you can analyze for yourself what your personal limits are on seeing real sex on reality shows, but since this is on Showtime, I guess they can sort of get away with it…I am torn on the issue, no pun intended…I think it breaks new boundaries, but at the same time, it demoralizes the women/cast involved…
I hate to say, but I think I’m going to continue to watch The Real L Word…if not for guilty pleasure purposes only…yeah, we all know this show will never relfect the various communities and big cities we call home, but maybe we can relate to the scenarios, the substance over style…

Pleasantly Surprised by Get Him to the Greek….

I’ll be honest, I didn’t have the highest of expectations going into Get Him to the Greek mostly because I was sick of seeing Russell Brand…oddly enough, his real life is not that different from his womanizing, drug-addled rock star Aldous Snow…you know by now, this is the second film for Brand’s Snow, the first, Forgetting Sarah Marshall was a huge hit…I had already heard mixed reviews of the film, some said funny, some said not so funny…however, I indulged two of my best friends and I agreed to see it…I’m glad I saw it!…It’s funny, raunchy, irreverent…my kind of comedy…and a great deal of the funny doesn’t come from the stars, Brand and Jonah Hill…it comes from Sean “Diddy” Combs, who plays the overzealous record label president, Sergio Roma…normally, I’m not a fan of Diddy’s…but he nearly steals Get Him to the Greek…I’m sure he drew from his real-life experiences in the music business, but he was wise to overact in those similar scenarios…I guess his only short fall is that he doesn’t look that threatening…Sergio is a master of mindgames and wit…and to shift gears, the music of Snow’s fictional band, Infant Sorrow, is really good!…and Brand sings!….in other words, I recommend Get Him to the Greek, especially if Toy Story 3 is sold out…
**NOTE: I’m thinking about recapping The Real L Word on the blog, I’m going to watch the first episode tonight and see if it’s worth it.**

My Summer TV Watchin’ List…

Ah yes, it’s that time of the year when we (and our DVRs) can take it easy…okay, we’ll probably still record some stuff since we all presumably will have a unlimted amount of summer activities and vacations to tend to…here’s a list of what I will be watching this summer…not sure if a vacation will be in there or not…

True Blood: Mark your calendars for June 13th Truebies!…season 3 looks to be very exciting, but I’m afraid a little too busy…at least that’s the sense I get from all the previews…I have enjoyed the mini-sodes…it looks like werewolves are entering the mix a la Twilight…I trust the books involve werewolves…I think I may read something this summer…(HBO)

Top Chef D.C.: June 16th… What’s a summer without a little Tom and Padma?…it’s nothing I tell you…the new season will commence after the second season finale of Top Chef Masters, which I also enjoy…(Bravo)

Obsessed: June 28th… More OCD than you can handle in season 2…I love this show!…it makes me feel a little more comfortable about myself…NO, I’m don’t have OCD so serious, I need therapy and a camera crew, but it’s so fascinating…(A&E)

Kathy Griffin-My Life on the D-List: June 15th…I can’t believe it’s season 6 already!…expect appearances from Maggie Griffin, Team Griffin, Liza, Kristin Chenoweth, Lauren Conrad, and many more…oh yeah, Levi Johnston…love it! (Bravo)

Work of Art: June 9th…I thought I would throw Bravo one more bone…you’ve seen interior designers, chefs, and amateur designers battle it out, why not artists????…yes, it’s a competition to find the “next great artist”…Sarah Jessica Parker is one of the executive producers, sounds safe…it is scheduled to follow Top Chef Wednesday nights…(Bravo)

The Green Room with Paul Provenza: June 10th… From the comedian/filmmaker who brought you The Aristocrats comes a new comedians’ round table to see who can top one another, totally uncensored…its run will only be 6 half-hour episodes, but I think it will be worth it…(Showtime)

Hot in Cleveland: June 16th… Well, it looks like I’ll have my first scheduling conflict on Wednesday nights…Betty White returns to her familiar roots in a sitcom co-starring, Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick, and Jane Leeves…the concept is a little silly…3 best friends, the ladies I just mentioned, are headed for Paris, but then their plane unexpectedly lands in Cleveland…and they discover themselves, blah-blah-blah..and White plays their sassy property caretaker…I’ll give it a shot…(TV Land)

And last but not least…

The Real L Word: June 20th…Thank God this comes on after True Blood…my Sunday nights could get interesting again…L Word creator/exec producer Ilene Chaiken tries to extend the life of her groundbreaking fictional series…by introducing us to real life LA lesbians!!!…well golly!…I admit, and to no surprise, I’m a little ambivolent…this show could be really sort of good, or really really bad…I’ll let fate decide…(Showtime)

Happy Watching!
