Rebecca Black Strikes Back! (Not Really, Are You Kidding???)

Oh Rebecca, I had to take some time (a day and a half) to process the new song and video for Black’s “Friday” follow-up “My Moment”, and now my process is complete.  First off, this is not a terrible song; I’ve hear much worse from Black’s fellow Ark Music Factory label mates. (Click for this hilarious countdown that does include Black herself)
I guess “My Moment” will have to broken down into a couple of screencaps for good measure.
You know an artist is legit when you see him/her sitting at the board in a recording studio; if she had done this with “Friday” I think she would have been taken more seriously, I’m totally kidding!  This video is filled to the brim with cliche’s galore.  The standard “let’s look at the process in the studio” scene is just one.  Cool huh?
I didn’t think this shot was legit, but then is anything on MTV legit anymore?  When Fridaymania was at its high point, Black was invited to make appearances, give interviews, and just get out there to try and extend her fame.  I love the girl in the “Marry Me Justin” shirt, so teenybopper.
Back to the studio where Black air drums an accent before the second verse; hey, she may have an iota of talent after all.  Air drumming has always been severely underrated, Rebecca Black makes it cool again.  Ugh!
One more visit to the studio and I ask my main burning question.  I don’t hear any electric guitar in the track, so why dramatize it?  She’s no Orinathi, but whoever she is, she can play the hell out of a guitar, or at least look good doing it.
Yes ma’am!  Rebecca Black dances!  And she ain’t bad.  When I saw the dude with the 5 o’clock shadow and the crazy smirk, I just want to remind him that Black is 14-years-old buddy!  Stop Jon Hamming!
By the end of the video, Black gets in her “f-you!” moment in the limo; she’s “about to blow up!” Right.  Her perfect bangs will not be denied!
Okay, I know I didn’t touch on every cliche’ here, but this one is classic, the faux marquee complete with red carpet and paparazzi.  Very legit!  NOT!
I just wonder what this whole Rebecca Black story would’ve looked like if she released this song first and “Friday” second.  To be fair, I think this song was written post-Friday publicity, so I guess my hypotheses is no plausible.
Congratulations universe, you win.

Rebecca Black Unfriends YouTube

Did someone hear the billion cries of agony through our computer screens?  Because guess what kids, it’s over…Yep, Rebecca Black’s Friday video has been yanked from YouTube….why?  It’s all a fight over who controls the rights, Ark Music Factory or Rebecca’s family.  In other words, someone wants a lot of money out of this little cash cow.  How will we go on?  How will I go on?  I’m figuring Black will try to record a full-length record and I’m betting it won’t be with Ark.  But who will touch this viral talent?  And I do mean viral….from now on, if anyone extends Black’s 15 minutes, cue Katy Perry, there will always be a reference to “Friday”, no matter what.   And now that Raquel Castro didn’t make the semi-finals on The Voice, no more dopplegangers either!  I’m not-not-not excited….I know this won’t be the last we hear from Rebecca Black, but we’ll always have this.

Rebecca Black: Silent Video Co-Star…A Good Thing?

Oh Rebecca Black…you just keep showing up in the oddest places…you should really be glad Katy Perry let you co-star in her brand new video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”, because your 15 minutes were about up….You should really try to not be the punchline at this point…but I’m afraid that won’t happen…you’ve already landed your own little piece of pop culture history thanks to You Tube….So you have that going for you, don’t be sad, be extremely grateful…and girl, please be smart and don’t take any bad advice, oh and maybe pick some better songs…
On the other hand, Katy Perry continues to wow with her outrageous personality…the Kathy Beth Terry character is priceless….She’s come a long way from kissing girls and liking it…I still hate that song! And thank God you gave some screen time to Debbie Gibson, Hanson, Corey Feldman, and KENNY G!

Rebecca Black’s Doppleganger?

If you think I’m going to put you through the torture of listening to and watching “Friday”, you are wrong!  Instead, I want to introduce to whom I’m pretty sure is Rebecca Black’s doppleganger, 16-year-old Raquel Castro.
Castro is currently competing on NBC’s The Voice and I don’t remember her from the blind auditions, but I swear, when I saw her on this week’s battle rounds, I couldn’t believe how much she resembles Black.  And I also didn’t know Castro played Jennifer Lopez’s daughter in the 2004 stinkeroo Jersey Girl.  She is now 16 and I won’t spoil the results for you, but she will continue on The Voice as part of Christina Aguilera’s team.  Wait, I just spoiled, excuse me.  For the life of me, I can’t remember how to display images side by side, but here’s Black.
It’s frightening!  However, when you see Castro, you’ll notice she is very tiny which leads me to believe she could also pass for:
Yes, Olympic gymnastic gold-medalist, Dominique Moceanu.  So weird!  Here’s Castro winning round versus Julia Eason and I hate to say it, but this battle was underwhelming, but Castro definitely had the edge…she’s so damn short!

My Two Cents: Rebecca Black’s "Friday"

Oh why the hell not?  I’ve been wrapped up in this dumbfounding phenomenon since yesterday, so I might as well throw in.  I will spare you the torture of posting the video–which is what I’m pretty sure they show in-flight to Libya.  It has a “Take on Me” meets Tom Goes to the Mayor (FYI, on Adult Swim weeknights at 12:15pm-Central) meets Justin Bieber meets LFO…oh, I could go on and on.  Rebecca Black is a product of this the Ark Music Factory, which is based out of LA and as you scan the site, it looks like a breeding ground for post-child beauty pageant contestants and for artists who want to fast-track it past American Idol. The main argument being made by 90 percent of America is this is the worst song and possibly the worst music video ever made.  I agree 100 percent!  But if it’s a song pre-teen Team Edward gals want to jam to, there’s nothing wrong with that.  I personally think this record company is playing a mega-million dollar joke on the music industry; okay, Lonely Island and/or Ashton Kutcher, you can come out from behind the curtain.  I’m sure Ark Music Factory didn’t expect “Friday” to get 3 million hits on YouTube; you’re welcome.  I just don’t know how Simon Cowell hasn’t swooped her up; oh yeah, April Fools is not quite here yet….
GEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
